I was just thinking over this new update, and I realized something. It is far not the same....:(

Remember the medic update, when for final unlock you needed all the achievements, not just rouhly 2/3 of the. Then it was hard to get them, but you were HAPPY to get any of new unlockbles. And the Ubersaw... It felt like an Award, Award for Hard Challange, Proof of mastery, You were just RIDICULOSLY happy to get it... Good old times.

And now? with every update its easier and easier to unlock things.

Now I do realize that many players asked unlocks to be seperate from achievements, but still, I think Valve went too far with it.

eh... i don't know how they'd have given out unlockables without achievments, but i do think that they should make you get all of them, makes farming them harder too =\

yeah i think you should have to get all of them. its annoying seeing all the farming too.

if you think its annoying seeing people farming for them then you must like that you dont need them all for everything...

all that leads to is rampant farming

i think if valve takes all of the achivements away and then releases all of them for all classes it would be great because everyone will be a different class but it would be such a pain for the admins for the servers

i dont like the farming .. but they have certainly made unlocking things too easy. the funnest part and the most proud i was, when i was only like 4 achieves away from getting the ubersaw. then while i was still busy working on my ubersaw they went and took my hard work and effort and made it meaningless.

im not saying im ungrateful for them lessening the difficulty on the ubersaw but the other two were just fine in difficulty. if you can unlock even 1 new weapon on release day the achieves are too easy imo. then again its really not the fault of valve or the team that created these achievements. under normal circumstances the achievements are fun and challenging to get. but most players (many of us included) forgo team play and often go for achievements. i know i did to an extent but not while i was on ego servers

I think they should give away the unlocks, but make the achievements give you "titles" over your name or maybe modify your player model slightly (colors, medals, whatever) when you play that particular class.

Achievements should be achievements and new weapons just new weapons. Why do they need to be combined? If the newer weapons were truly so awesome and powerful that there should be only a handful ever earned then they weapons should be tied to meaningful and hard achievements.

Since Valve's intention was that the weapons be average (ie with both pluses and minuses associated to each weapon) and be ultimately available to everyone, then they should have just enabled them for everyone from the beginning.

This middle of the road approach is meaningless unless Valve's intention was to promote farming. But then again, Valve is the one with all the money so it's their call =)

I have noticed tons of heavy achievements happening on the servers. From the same people? Cant really say but it seems every few minutes somebody is getting one.

I dunno, it hasn't made me have any less fun :)

I think that if you make it so that you need all the Achievements for the new weapons there would be much more farming. The system in place right now has worked fine, I don't know why they would change it. The only thing that I could think of that might help the situation is if the Achievements were a little more harder, rather then having the player complete all of them.

I consider myself to be a pretty darn good medic ... anybody who has had me as their personal medic will probably agree ... and w/o the "slack" on the unlockables, I probably would have never gotten all the weapons w/o going to an achievement server, which i refuse to do unless griefing them ...

I'm just sayin, some of those medic achievements rely solely on the skill of the player you're ubering, and even then, its up for grabs.

That being said, I think the Heavy updates are just silly ...

The heavy is a communist. What did you expect?

--- On a more serious note, what makes people play a game longer, what makes new people buy a game? Does a static game with no goals (achievements) attract new unfamiliar players? What good are goals if there are no rewards?
--- Why should your achievements be meaningless if you got them legitimately? I love doing the achievements for weapons. I don't feel as though my efforts are in vein when people had them less than an hour after update was released.
--- Making achievements harder makes more farmers. Making more required makes more farmers. Easier and fewer means people will farm them shorter and get back to normal play. I'm glad there are farming server so that real servers don't get as much back lash from farmers.

A game is to play and have fun not earn achivements for example, on consoles they give you achivments but u bought the game just to play

My personal thought on why you need the achievements to unlock weapons is that its a time sink pure and simple. People earn achievements and than play for a week with their new toys. It also keeps those that have been playing forever an extra reason to stick around and extends the longevity of the game in general.

they did it because not everyone has enough time to get all the achievements but they want to still give those people a chance to get the unlovable

I dont like when people farm it makes the server no fun and when you kill them they are like why did you do that we are doing achievements.

If they're going to keep it just as hard to unlock weapons, they need to make the 'necessary' achievements make sense for your class. If they make them really random or dumb, then it should take less achievements to unlock or make achievements and weapon unlocks a completely different system.

For example, if I'm trying to unlock medic equipment, the things I need to go through to get that equipment should actually depend on skill, such as keeping someone alive while three people are shooting at him for ten seconds (I think there's already one like this). That is a heck of a lot better than "Kill twenty medics with your Bonesaw" or "Kill twenty scouts". For a healing class, it is complete nonsense that you get rewarded with equipment that supposedly shows skill for doing something that something that I shouldn't ever have to do.
