Strange Sound Problem in Tf2

Over the past few months I've been experiencing some strange problems with sound whlst playing Tf2. about 40% of the times I connect to any server, all sound will vanish; from weapons sounds to people on the mic's. However, strangely enough the sound works fine for the map's movie, but nothing else. What makes it more confusing is that it occurs on random servers. For example last week I connected to our badwater server; no sound, but the next day I connected to the same server and there wasn't a problem.
Additiolnally this only happens to me on Tf2, not on CCs or Dod.
I cannot recall exactly when this started but I didn't do anything with Tf2 which may have caused this problem.

Anyone experienced anything similar? It's starting to get really annoying, especially when I visit servers which allow Hldj or Hlss.

it might be somthing in ur game settings /computer setting and or ur sound card might be faulty

actually i had the same exact problem with my headset one time.... i dont remember how i fixed it (cuz it was many months ago), but im pretty sure what i had to do was update soundcard drivers and reinstall tf2

Does the sound stop working in the game? Or your entire system?

Try right clicking on TF2 in the Steam Game List -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache -> Start up TF2

That might fix it.

I was having that problem. and honestly I don't know what finally fixed it. I'm using Vista and I think messing around with the playback devices (right clicking the speaker in the bottom right bar) is what took care of it. Anyway. before that, when I had the problem I'd just switch my output in game. So under sound options I'd change it from 2 speakers or whatever to headphones, or even 7.1 sound - apply it, then return it back to 2 speakers. Worked 85% of the time for me - but was incredibly frustrating.

Does the sound stop working in the game? Or your entire system?

Try right clicking on TF2 in the Steam Game List -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache -> Start up TF2

That might fix it.

When I disconnect from a server I get no sound when scrolling over 'find server' 'options' 'achievments' etc; the sound only plays when I watch the movie about the map. Sound is working on my computer when I quit the game though.

Thanks for the Idea too, I'll try it out; see how it goes.
