i'm just taking a computer programming course in java at school.
and was wondering, what's your opinion on it?

or if you don't like it. is there something better? maybe c++? ( i would of been learning that but it crashes at our school... lame)

It really depends on what you want to do and how you want to learn; I think in early stages that most Java professors leave out things that you should know - specifically memory management, threading, and pointers.

I realize that lots of languages take care of this for you now (like Java, .net, most scripting languages) but when it comes down to it, some of the things you learn to do while debugging those types of things are critical skills to be a good developer later.

If I could, I'd change the order of so many courses at a HS/University level - yes, there needs to be an intro course, but it should be followed with a systems course for CS majors, rather than waiting for systems courses to be taught at a junior/senior level.

What's your major?

I hate every minute of java class. I broke the keyboard by banging my head on it. True story.

You want to learn alot of things really, not just java.

I work for a mobile software dev.. and we work mainly in java, brew, php, mysql, drupal, and of course all things adobe.
