Chaos Castle: A review/guide by Me

First off, if you don't know, Chaos Castle is a CTF Map that has the relative size of turbine and is balanced for every class. The steel server has been changed to Castle Chaos and i encourage you all to DL and check out this map!

The Base: The bases are symetrical (spellcheck...), like every CTF map. The base has 3 levels, with the respawn being on the first level. The 2nd level is limited to it's usefulness, only because of it's small size. The third level gives you access to higher ground outside, and the only large healthpack on the map. Each level has one way to get out of the base to the outside. The bottom two level's exits are in the same place, but the second level's exits are on a ramp.

The outside. The outside consists of a mixture of open spaces, closed spaces, high ground and some great spy spots :). When exiting out of the bases, if you go out and to the right (or left, depending on the team), theres a staircase that leads up to a ledge in the back of the outside area. This is a good place for snipers and soldiers (mabye demos too) to get a height advantage oveer the opposing team. Under the ledge there is a hallway that's great for putting tele exits in a safe spot, and for spy travel. Theres also rock structures situatied around the middle in decently thought out spots. The last feature of the outside area is the roof area. The ony way to get to the roof area is scout dbl jumping (from the rocks), rocket/sticky jumping) or exiting from the third floor of any base. The roof gives you a decent height advantage over opposing teams approaching your base, and generallly gives full use to sneaky pyros and spys, or if your like me, wrench happy engies:rolleyes:.

The Tactics Chaos Castle makes for fun and dynamic playing, and usually ends up with one team pushing into the other's base. Because of the bases exits and layout, it's hard to get any decent push that can't be stopped by spys or wrench happy engies. But that doesn't mean you never get the intel. Sacrifices of masked men who rush into the intel room and bring the intel into a place where their team can bring it back easily is the usual course of action. The funnest times of the map is when no one controls the outside, and it's constantly tug a war between the teams to controll the outside. Makes for some very epic kills =D.

Pictures coming soon!

Please DL the map and try it out!

P.S. The general consensus on this map is that it's more balanced for general play of all the classes (scouts are as useful as soldiers on Chaos) and it makes for less turtled types of battles.

The respawn time is 5 seconds, and i think it only needs a few seconds of tweaking.

Have fun,
~Zaw

I think it is but there as a post I made about helping to fill in the server. I think since members made it aware about Chaos server being up and needing help filling up they just replied there.

Pretty good summary of the map. Left out an important detail though. There is a hole on the third floor overlooking the intel. Very useful if you're capturing the enemy's or defending your own.

KK, i'll add that later. Currently i can't get on TF2, so if anyone wouldn't mind taking screenshots and posting them here, i'll add them to the appropriate place in the guide.

Yeah,
I really enjoy this map, I think it has a lot of great features which you pointed out. I played with almost every class on this map and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I can't tonight, leaving in a bit. although I would be more than willing to in the morning if they're still needed.

That would be a great help! Take pictures of what I mentioned and anything else you think is important.

Here are the screenshots off FPSBanana of the map. I'll take some more of what is missed tomorrow.

I can only think of 1 or 2 things off the top of my head that would be worth taking pictures of at the moment though.

I'll be addding those pictures later thid afternoon when i have more time (gotta to stuff at my temple). Thanks freakinghell!

I love Chaos. It's balanced, small enough to promote quick rounds but large enough and varied enough to make every class's contribution valuable. I'm glad we have a dedicated server and hope the map catches on well enough to stay.

Really not a fan.. the visual lines seem low and cramped in places, bare and boring in others. Gameplay seems to stutter between frenetic gibfests and slow turtle-offs.

Yeah seems like a cool map but no one was on when I downloaded it =

Bah, it seems a bit dead =(. WE need people to help fill it, as it's not a good map with anything less than 10v10.

In other news, i got my first airshot with a rocket on an rjing soldier. And then i proceeded to shovel him in the face when he landed =D.

Its a great map I played it once before it replaced steel, it was on some other server somewhere else though but I liked it then and am happy to see it coming here to party for as long as its popular lol

Its small size does take getting used to...but its hugely enjoyable when there's only about 12 on either side. Not too stale and not too spammy. Brilliant. :D

Chaos is quite possibly my favorite TF2 map. Although some of that may have to do with the fact that it is one map that I really excel at, especially with a good medic (thanks again for the healing last weekend Bloodmaze).

To me, it really is one of the most well balanced CTF maps I have played and looking at my scoreboard screenshots last night, I saw a nice mixture of classes up at the top.

To me, the key to the map lies in the fact that you can not only rush from the front to grab the intel, but also drop from above. In fact, the hole above the intel is just high enough that an enterprising soldier can drop down on top of the intel and rjump back up before the enemy even knows what hit them. I've scored more than a few caps that way.

Really, the key to a good defense lies in at least one sentry on the upper level as well as one down below.

Anyway, everybody go play it before it gets replaced with another map and see what all the fun is about!

I've only played on Chaos a couple times but it is quite a nice little map IMO. I'll definitely play on it if I see a least few people on.

tried to join, but it wouldn't let me download the map. some weird CRC error came up.
