...first off, learn to spell it.

Second, posting a link to a website isn't illegal.

Third, using torrents is not illegal.

Fourth, using torrents to acquire copyrighted content is (technically) not illegal.

Fifth, seeding/sharing copyrighted content IS illegal.

What I posted was a legitimate method for acquiring a publicly available product, in this case, a custom firmware for a PSP. Sharing/downloading this software is in no way illegal, unless it's written in it's EULA that it is not to be spread by any other means, but I highly doubt that. If so, please post said excerpt and I will remove my link.

Using the M33 custom code isn't illegal at all. You can do illegal stuff with it though, I guess. Just like a gun isn't illegal - but you can do illegal stuff with it.

Notice how they distribute their work without any hassle or question. There's nothing that you can do about it. It's fair use. You're improving some hardware you bought for superior functionality to the original functionality. What's wrong with that?

What CAN get you in to trouble is taking Sony's code (the firmware) and distributing that.

But firmware modification and whatever - sure. Fair game. You're not doing anything wrong.

Sony might say otherwise - to make you think you are. After all, there's nothing wrong with mis-quoting the law in the free legal mis-advice that Sony provides you. ( Go read up on Fair Use in copyright law. You'll be amazed by the rights you're provided legally. Backups, format shifting, time shifting, reverse engineering )

As for sharing, I've got my own arguments on that ... ( like if I invite you over my house to watch some DVDs that I bought - I'm sharing with you right? Is that illegal? ) - I'm sure a discussion could get great, but I bet it would just end up getting locked. I doubt this is the best place to take a good step into gray subject matter.
