Connect to server question

I'm going to be a noob for a little bit, but I honestly do not know how you connect to a server with a password.
I know that you go in to the console and type in "connect [ip address]" to get to a server, but what about the password? I've tried many variations of where to put the password, and haven't been able to figure it out. !bang
Can someone please help me?

sometimes the password box doesn't always come up right away...it happens to me sometimes too...i just keep hitting refresh a couple times till it comes up...sometimes the password box will appear behind the window that shows the server info, and you have to drag that window out of the way....hope this helped a bit...i don't know what else it could be...

thats not exactly what i meant...
let me rephrase my question.

When say eGO has an event, you are given a ip address and a password for the server on which the event is held on. How would you connect to the server using only the ip address and the password?

However, the server used is always one of the current servers, lately it has been the blackmesa server.

Easiest way to do this is to just add our servers to your favorites list then connect the normal way, then put the pass in.
