Why 32 player servers?

I gotta say, some times in 32 player servers I feel...crowded. Especially when I'm playing a spy. And all the rocket, grenade, pyro spam can get really frustrating at times. But don't get me wrong, some maps are great for 32 players like warpath and blackmesa. So I was just wondering:

1,what made eGO decide to create 32 player servers? and 2, would eGO ever consider making a lower player server? Perhaps you could make all the less popular maps on the smaller servers if there's a worry about filling them.

I don't know if any of this has been said or not, but sometimes I like things different. Some days I love playing in a chaotic, rockets going everywhere type of game. However, some days I'd like a little more organized and more relaxed paced kinda of game.

This has just been something on my mind for awhile and I thought I should just throw it out there.

I personally don't know. I only play 32 person servers myself. I guess the intensity factor and crazyness make it more fun for me, and always knowing theres someone to be blown up :)

Yeah I can understand that. It's just sometimes I like a change of pace every now and then while being able to play with my fellow eGO members.

Yea, I pretty much only play Dustbowl so It throws me off when I join a game that isnt 32 people, but Im not sure Ive seen an eGO server with a <32 person capacity.

I think the thing is that the server rating goes up based on the number of players on the server. So there for a 32 man server with only 24 people goes up just as fast as a full 24 man. So it should be better for ratings as well as intensity. However this is just a guess on my part so dont hold me to it.

i think he said it nicely

i prefer 32 player servers it more full and you have more fun yes a spy takes a little getting used to but youll get used to it it just takes practice with whichever class

I think the feeling of being crowded has a lot to do with what class one likes to play. I find myself getting easily frustrated when I play on a full, spam happy server when I try a class with a short range "heavy" weapon (like pyro or spy... even though I have a very low skill level with spy).

I think Iceman's idea will be dead on... it has to do with ranking.... and ranking gets us sponsors and such... so it is kind of "for the good of the club" as one might say.

Sometimes I'd really like to play on Vanilla servers, too bad I never find any. 32 player slots, instaspawn, low gravity and other crap... Why is nobody playing TF2 how the game was intended to be?

+1

Hehe, funny, i was about to suggest we move up to 36 player servers :P not sure how the boxes would handle it though.

The more the better. When I go to a 24 slot server it just seems so empty. I like having the oppertunity to do more damage.

Its fun, cause I like to wrench those spys who get near my sentry whenever I build them inside the base, while they get annoyed.

eGO servers are so popular I guess the admins just like to give more slots.

Dustbowl is CONSTANTLY 32/32 players, for some reason very little people are playing Turbine...this makes me sad.

Learn to be another class. :[
