Torrents so slow

Lately any Torrent iv been trying to download have been extremly slow..
im getting like 0.1kb download per sec. i used to be able to use torrent fine up to last week.
iv been trying to torrent some WoW patches and its downloading at 0-1kb per sec.
this happens with every other torrent aswell.
what happend? i have tried different torrent software and the same thing happens.
 
blah, that reminds me that i got busted by the MAA by using peer to peer program :[
 
i have found that my internet provider will block high bandwidth ports. So like Torrent ports will get blocked. not sure if thats whats going on. Otherwise it is your Windows Firewall or your router firewall that is slowing it down.
 
im using AOL.
i have not changed anything in my firewall or router in the last week...so i dont get whats going on .
 
AOL will be doing it too. Essentially what they do is they choke your bandwidth for things like torrents, or in BT's case (my situation) all downloads, because the people that work for them are incompetent. What I'm trying to say is they're limiting your torrent speeds. Leave it a month, and if they don't remove the limit, call them. My personal approach was to tell them what they were doing was illegal if the information wasn't made public and I wasn't told they were choking me. They denied that but removed the limiter anyway. Then I went over their imaginary download limit again, so I'm currently in the process of changing ISP to one ran by human beings and not squirrels.

They're choking you off, they're not really supposed to.
AOL is probably one of the worst ISP's possible, just for the record. Theres a reason they have those stupid discs/coasters in stores.
 
Make sure if you have a router the right ports are allowed or open for the torrent program you use it for. That is a something i learned early on.
 
Huh, choking you for dl torrents, just lame, they should be forced to pay you some money back, here in europe in several countries they simply shut down the acces to torrentsites, not all but some, but luckily the EUkommision a week ago approved the parlaments sugestion that it is illegal to shut down the acces to these sites :-), and thats including choking users.

so im being chocked.
to be honest don't get why isp are so bother about what we download. Also 99% of what iv downloaded is unlicensed amine so its pretty mush legal..so they choked me for no good reason
 
Well, using AOL will obviously leave you with a very low speed to begin with....

Torrent speed is based on what other people in the cloud are choosing to upload so it's variable... You could have a torrent with 1300 people and download at 20kb/s or one with 40 and get around 600kb/s. It depends.

As far as being choked goes..... There are several companies outside of the US that use packetshaping to prevent torrent. Some even go as far as capping your bandwith (Oceanic have like 15GB on average)

I'd recommend trying to get the patches from an HTTP download. More reliable at lower speeds.

i usually get 400kb per sec with WoW torrent so its a healthy torrent...
ehhhh..its my dads fualt we are with AOL...we had to sighn a 12 month contract wit AOL so my dad got a free laptop...he got sucked up by the offer...
 
Yeah just try looking for a HTTP Download. :O If that's still going slow you've been capped. Or... someones sapping ur bandwith.
 
Yeah, I also use AOL discs as frisbees. I use torrents to test out new movies/music/games. If I don't like it I delete it, If I like it I buy it. I suppose it's technically illegal, but w/e.
 
Possibly Your Modem hates taking so many requests .. :) or ur ISP is throttling your torrent traffic.. but i'm not sure if thats the reason i dont torrent
