Windows Vista vs. Mac OS X

hey guys im building a new computer soon but i was looking for some advice on what you guys think is better: Windows Vista or Mac OS X

if it is Vista what should i get: home basic, home premium, business or ultimate
 
First of all: XP > Vista

Secondly, if it's for gaming, Mac isn't even an option unless you're going for dual-boot scenario, in which case I'd still go with windows because if it's for gaming, you're going to want to upgrade, and that's 1000x easier with a windows machine, since Apple likes to own your soul when it comes to hardware.
 
Well I have a MacBook and run TF2,DOD:S and CS:S on it just fine without any problems but the price is high for a mac,You also can't build a mac.

If you do however get a mac there is a variety of programs you can use to run games including Crossover,Parallels and VMWare and Boot-Camp with Bootcamp and VMware you would need a copy of windows to install on it because it basically portions your hard drive and makes it half Windows Half OS X You can switch between the two with VMware

But with Bootcamp there is a option were you press a shortcut keys to take you to a prompt where you choose what OS want to launch from at the begging and you stay in that OS until restart.

Vista on the other hand has DX10 which again can be put on the Mac via Bootcamp or VMware.

So the choice is truly up to you,I personally went with MacBook (The new ones that just came out Monday)

Uhh, Xp will go out of business later, cause some games will be needing DirectX10, I'd rather go for vista, Because:

Pros

1.You can custom build your PC, unlike Mac.
2.Its gonna be the main system in the future.
3.New interface/GUI. (If you like eye candy XP).
4.All the games will be coming out for Both XP/Vista
5.Its a gaming computer/business computer.

Cons
1.ITS EFFING SLOW IF YOU USE UP ALOT OF CPU/RAM!
2.Stupid protection system >.>.
3.Requires more RAM for some games.
4.Burns your eyes if you don't like HDR blindness.
5.Both XP/Vista has alot of virus.

T3h mac.

1.NO to less virus :D.
2.Sometime the widgets are awesome.
3.It doesn't crash alot.
4.If you buy the notebook (NOT A GAMING SYSTEM), comes with a built-in Isight.
5. The dock :P.
6. BOOTCAMP FTW (Do I have to say more?)
7. No system allow/cancel

Cons.
1.You can't build your own...
2.Sometime, needs a good spec to play some games.
3.Dang, sometime I wish I would kill the mac notebook for crashing on me at times >.>.
4. Widgets are slow to load at start-up.
5. Crashes at sometimes.
6. Doesn't support internet explorer (I hate it anyways, bad news for you IE fans), and it uses Firefox and safari, I doubt opera though.
7. Makes your wanna kill yourself if your doing some paper work on this thing and it comes up in a crash window.
8. Not a gaming computer (for some Mac PCs).

You sound angry and people usually make mistakes when angry so I will let this one go.
 
lol, angry? what about?

Windows is just cutting Vista, so now isn't the time to get it. =P
 
If you're buying a new computer... DO NOT BUY WINDOWS XP AS YOUR ONLY OS...

Because you're buying a new computer, you need to make sure that it will be able to run most software for the next 1-3 years...

Within the next 6-9months most if not all games on the PC Platform will begin being made with DX10...

Currently, only Vista supports TRUE DirectX 10.

This has nothing to do with whether or not XP is better than vista, or vista is worse than anything else... Just ignore that...

If you're going to buy Vista, doesn't matter what version... Home Premium will do you fine for gaming.

But make sure you get the 64Bit Version.

Sooner than later like XP to Vista... things will begin to become more and more 64 bit. Just like when we made the jump from 16 to 32.

So, when buying a new PC.. remember: Future Proofing comes become ease of use.

Actually, the new macbook pros and macbooks have nVidia graphics chipsets.... So you can actually game with decent FPS on Macs now.

But of course, they are NOT made for gaming... so you cannot expect uber leet FPS and graphics... but... you get to play the game so it doesn't really matter. Otherwise you're just being nitpicky. :O

But, you can still install Vista on any Macs so it doesn't really matter.

Only thing I can add to this is be sure that your processor is 64-bit. Most modern CPUs are (AMD and Intel), so you shouldn't have a problem, but someone tried to run x64 Vista on a P3...didn't go so well. Thought that I'd mention it.

And see the people votes that you should get Vista instead of Mac (mac is kinda a job-computer type thing now), Not offending anybody who has mac.
 
Yea, I work with Macs and PCs at my job and oddly enough, we have a LOT more problems with the Macs than PCs. I troubleshoot problems that the teachers have and it's about 50/50 for usage schoolwide. We get a more Macs in than PCs. No idea why really.

Oh well, as long as I get paid, I'll keep doing it :)

We had that problem at my old school....It's mostly because the teachers didn't know how to use macs, aside from one or two of them....

All the students did fine though. :O
 
I don't understand the hate on Vista anymore. 6 months - 1yr+ ago, maybe, but with SP1 and the latest drivers Vista is great.

I just switched to 64 bit Vista Ultimate and I couldn't be happier. And this is coming from a hardcore gamer who has been using XP for 7 years.
 
Vista Ultimate 64 Bit. Done and Done.

XP is becoming obsolete, good luck trying to run future games with your DX 9 XP......

And the whole "Vista is buggy, and you can't sneeze without it asking for permission" thing is just dumb. Vista is only made out to be bad if the user doesn't know squat about operating it. I got Vista the day it came out and never looked back at XP. The whole permission thing...stop blaming Vista and turn that off. It isn't hard.
 
I'm planning to upgrade to Windows 7 when it's released. Don't buy the Mac though. It's overpriced and not as flexible as Windows.

You don't want to be on Vista.
Look up the reviews for it, I've got a semi-kick ass computer and have XP.

The biggest red flag should be that Windoze 7 is nearly ready for release, and Vista just came out what, a year ago? 2 years? Shows you how big of a flop it was. ;)

Technically... Windows 7 is an upgrade to Vista.... Seeing as it's Version number is 6.1....
