Suggestion on heatsink fan

yeah i think that would do just fine for an aftermarket cooler. Arctic Cooling has great fans/heatsinks

If you would want something a little bit more expensive i would go with this (same product)

I have a buddy that uses this and he said its an amazing fan and the only thing he has seen better is the $100+ fans, and watercooling. Thats just my 2 cents
 
Yep I was initially going to buy the Tuniq 120 but then I found out that it didn't fit very securely on my AMD processor so I went out and bought an Arctic Cooling. If I had an Intel processor(I'm sure it'll fit better with Intel because it doesn't use a clip for Intel), I would DEFINITELY buy it.
 
I just finished researching CPU coolers before I bought that one :)

The vertical fan heat sinks work much better than the flat ones, and the Freezer 7 is definitely the best bang for your buck.
 
I've had issues with the plastic pins on Arctic Cooling heatsinks breaking and then the heatsink coming loose off the CPU. I'd sugest something that uses metal to secure the heatsink down. Not some cheepo plastic... My 2 cents. Also ask WhIteY, he's my roomie and had the same issue on his Intel board.
 
The Artic Cooling will be good... I would buy one for my wife's computer, but she just doesn't make hers work quite I do mine. I run a Zalman 9500 on my C2D and love it... but the Artic Cooling gets just as good of reviews with a lower price.
 
ive noticed that some of the hsf's that u guys have suggested require additional construction to put them onto the cpu. i also noticed that 1 of the hsf's got a lil deal of thermal paste w/ their kit (provided by asus). i wonder if it was an asus hsf itself. i think im gonna get another thing of arctic silver (cause i cant remember where my original deal of AS went 2).
 
I didn't use the stuff that came with mine... if you don't get some, you are welcome to have my Zalman paste... I used Artic Silver on mine... but the HSF should come with everything you need... the 9500 required nothing extra..
 
The "best" thermal paste is a tight race between MX-2 and Shin Etsu. They go back and forth.

AS5 is a good baseline though.

hey gooda, due to the fact that AS has more votes than mx-2 does, im gonna get the AS stuff (no offense). both r round the same price, but AS has more votes (& ill prob get the stuff from frys since its close by). i do appreciate ur input on it tho.
 
I recommend one thing, COPPER, it is amazing at dissipating heat. I don't even need a North bridge fan because of my copper heat sink, however, I don't know if there are any good copper heat sinks (that aren't outrageously priced) but definitely keep that in mind. Also ask any chem friends you have, they'd back me up on this.
