Starcraft 2

it doesn't quite work like that. Its buy the first game, the terran one, then they will realease 2 expainsions containing a few ne units for mutliplayer an each of the other campagins.

...they said that the first one would come with complete multilayer, meaning the other games are just campaign

Actually, Terrans were my favorite race in SC1. It was a shame that they weren't competitive in multiplayer.

I played competitively as Terran for years. You just have to learn how to play them properly. I will be buying all three and I continue to play and buy new discs for the original starcraft.

I lost my Brood Wars a while ago, but I plan to get it again even though SC2 is out. I also plan to get all three versions. i am a die hard StarCraft player, and will not hesitate to buy them all.

Exactly. I was one of the top Starcraft players at my college and I was always Terran. Once you learn them they are set.

Don't think I was that good though. It was a small private college. And I'm lucky.

I'm a little miffed that it's going to be spread out, but I've never seen a Blizzard game that didn't provide excellent value for money, and that's going back to friggen Lost Vikings and Rock'n'Roll Racing. Only Bioware and Valve come even close to Blizzard's consistency in my mind.

Maybe that's an argument that they're due for a dud, but I'm willing to bet they'll keep up the track record.

Pff, im sorry but to say they are stealing your money is just a darn right lie. They have spent the last year, and will do for the rest of this year and a good part of next year making this the most balanced RTS yet, yet still different and competative. Really the only cheat in money here is the consumers, for only paying anything less than ?300 for it. There are so many bad games out there for ?20-30, i will easily get more than 100 times the gameplay out of sc2 than i will alot of games I've bought.

Also i would be angry as a sc1 fan if they didn't have at least two expainsions, as the game is bound to be imbalanced, and as the current price for such a high quality game is basicly day-light robbery, i would happily pay another ?30 x 2 for the expainsions.

Strategy + Balance + Starcraft = Mass one unit and rush!

Eh, I'd rather sacrifice some tactical unit micromanagement for the greater emphasis on economy/supply train strategy that SC has. Though that might just be that I can't stand the fiddly controls that intense micro always requires, probably why CoH, AoE, WC3 etc. all fell a bit flat for me.

The consumer shouldn't have to "Pay up" for a quality game. Game companies should be setting their standards higher then just shoveling out mediocre crap to the masses. To even SUGGEST paying $300 for a GAME is just ridiculous. Sure, it may be a pretty decent game, but what about the games that sell for $10 and are grossly popular (see: Peggle).
It irritates me that companies go in to making a game with this kind of plan in mind:
"Hey, lets make a game we KNOW will sell millions, but when we release it, it won't be complete! We'll sell them in yearly* installments and make even MORE money!"
"Jim, I'm not really sure that's a good idea. Won't our customers hate us?"
"Oh you... It's not for us to care if they love us or hate us. They're COMPELLED to buy from us, regardless of its quality. We're freakin' Blizzard!"

*years in Blizzard are longer than a standard year.

I was actually looking forward to this game until I come to find out that is how they are going to run the show. Granted its a ingenious marketing ploy, the scale of which only Blizzard could pull off. And I'm sure the game will be pretty awesome, but its that kind of stuff that bothers me to the point where they lose a customer. They string everyone along leech as much money as they can... anyways...

I dunno, the "Blizzard are money grubbing jerks out to bleed us dry" line doesn't really hold water for me. It's not like there's a shortage of competitor products for things like WoW/SC/Diablo. If there wasn't a big enough group that thought the content Blizz produce was worth the sticker price on the box, Blizz wouldn't still be around, let alone in the black.

And given that it's both still around and profitable (unlike a great many dev studios that have closed shop in the last 6m-1y) those folks must be out there. And if selling to that market puts their kids through college, why should they be forced to cater to any other demographics if they don't want to?

eta: hmm...that sounded less "voice of the capitalist pig" in my head. obviously the day job is eating away at my soul :P

Have you ever played a bad blizzard game? Me either. There are no facts that make this a marketing ploy at this point. There is no price for this game.

I don't mean to be a smart ass or rude, but have you ever worked in the industry? (im guessing not) I don't think you realise how hard it is for games companies and how much of a gamble EVERY game is. Even the big companies like blizzard with billions of turnovers make massive gambles with each of their games. They make like what, a game every few years? ok they have WoW, SC and D3 coming withing 3 years, but this is unusual for blizzard, i mean if wow was a failure, with wc3 failing to really take of as a proper e-sports, where would blizzard be now financialy? starcraft is run dry, no more sales, only tournements, wc3 is an ok e-sports but not amazing, D2 LOD dried out long ago and sc2 may flop as an e-sport too, with competitors like RA3 and DOW2 dominating the non super hard-core crowd. Here in the UK 2/3 games companies have closed down over the last 10 years, because of bankrupcy. I've worked with guys who've been unemployed for months due to unstability in the games industry. The games industry moves like lightning at the moment, its like a super unstable formula, if you blink, it explodes in your face. People have a really warped perception of the games industry like every company is a proper buisness who manage their money well and make a good profit and turnover, with proper marketing discisions. Infact most companies are basicly a large group of about 30 tops people (apart from the massive companies) in an office somewhere, mucking around, and the manager usualy does the financing and the accounting and the marketing all in one. So to say blizz is bringing in the "cash cow" and say "oh look peggle is $10", well ill say that sc2 has been in development for 10 years now with a team of at least 100 working on it, peggle could be made in a matter of months by four comsci grads. So yeah i think that in this case i would pay $300 for sc, hell it's cost ?1000 ($1598.2) over the past 3 years for my household's WoW subscriptions, and although i regret the time i spent in it, the end game is almost worth it. (work out roughly ?8 a month, times three for three people over three years plus the cost of the game an 3 expainsions). So if I've wasted that much on WoW i think i would "waste" ?300 on SC2 seeing as its looking like a much better game.

I mean, the way they're trying to make money, its not as if they run the most popular MMORPG in the world, with over a million subscribers paying 15 Million + Per month!

True and servers, customer service, acounting, marketing and producing are totaly free!, and they have a massive blank cheque from HSBC if thier games go wrong too, and they fail to meet thier turnovers. And they weren't taking any gamble with wow becuase they have lepricauns that can supply them with money when they need it most.

WoW is a bad blizzard game...most over rated mmorpg of all time

Really? How many people play it? Oh yeah, a lot more than any other game. Oh wait I forgot about....never mind it's not even close. If it is such a bad game why do so many people play it? I think it's because it's only a bad game in your eyes. I do not play WoW because I am not a huge MMO fan (loved Vanguard though) but I still think it is a great game. Nobody cares if you don't like the people who play it or if you think they are gamers or not or any of the other pathetic arguments about the game. Bottom line: A lot of people play the game because it is fun for them to play.

wow is not the biggest mmo...just biggest western mmo. Asia has mmo with crazier numbers.

like i said its over-rated hence the 11 million players (china makes the biggest chunk of the sub number)..im a big mmo fan been playing since 2002
