Ping (or ping rate) is generally the time (in milliseconds) it takes for the data packets to get from your PC to the game server. There is also hop count, which is the number of routers between you and the device you are pinging.
Just because a person playing a game has a high "ping" don’t not mean the server is the problem at all. A lot of things can cause a high "ping".
A Dial out internet connection is most always going to have a high ping rate because the use of a phone modem.
DSL sometimes will have a high “ping”; however thing the user most likely will do to correct this is reboot the DSL modem. DSL is fast but still will get a bad conection at times.
Even Cable some at times will show a bad ping rate and again the problem is 90% of the time a bad modem conection (reboot modem).
If a person has high speed internet service but has a home network set up, with other computer online at the same time you are playing an online game will drives ones ping rate up as well as programs running on your computer while you’re on line.
If none of these possible reasons apply and the person still has a high “ping” you can also turn down all of your settings in the game. Put them on a small resolution, with detail at minimums. meaning the persons computer its self can not process the information incomming and out going fast enough thus will cause a high "ping".
EGO servers seem to run very good for the most part. I have seen lag and other issues; however a high ping is not always a server issue.
