Mic Volume

Hey everyone,

I've had this problem for a while now and I just want it fixed somehow. My mic's volume in-game is horrendously low for some reason. I have all of my volumes turned up max in-game and on my computer's settings. What could be the problem?

Here have been my possible solutions that i've come up with (Keep in mind im not a computer wiz):

-Bad sound car?
-Need a new mic? (tried and new mic is too low too)

Have you tried speaking louder? Lol, im sorry i dunno

Need to know what kind of mic you are using.

If there were any software that came with it, make sure you have the latest version. Most mic's just don't need it or come with it but there are a few high end ones where you can control pretty much all the aspect of it so be aware of that.

Even if it is a usb one, you might need an update for it as well as trying another usb port.

You said you have everything turned up on the sound panel, but that doesn't mean that you have every single option put up there either. I would start playing around with the sound control panel turning each one on and off, (sorry I don't know the whole sound control panel by heart) and see if that helps.

Do make sure your in game setting are right as well.

After all that, maybe it is you who is speaking too soft.

Another thing to check is whether this is happening just in-game (CS:S?) or whether it's happening to everything across the board.

For example, do you use anything like Skype or an IM voice chat? Can the people on the other side hear you OK? If so, the problem is likely game-related not PC-related.

If all your apps are having problems, then it's probably the device or your PC. Make sure your input levels are set high enough in your PC (Control Panel, Sounds, Recording Devices, Levels).

You could also download something like Audacity to test your PC. If you can record fine in something like Audacity, then it's just the game. Make sure the game level (as Not-Z said) is turned up high enough.

And last, but not least, is your mic OK? Has this ever worked for you? If it suddenly stopped working, and you don't remember doing anything to your PC, it's likely a hardware problem. Stepped on your mic, dropped it, twisted the cord and broke a lead, whatever. Could try swapping to a different mic and see if that works.

are you using ventrilo and in-game at the same time if so thats your problem.vent lowers your in-game sound so that could be it.
