my phone = in water

so yea i was about to go to the bathroom...then my phone vibrated, fell out of my hoodies front pocket, and fell into the toilet ..its a verizon env2. are there any tips on how to get this thing working again.

right now i have taken out the battery and am letting it dry out...how long should i do this for and are there any other steps?

Ehh, k, you've taken the first steps. It might be a good idea to take it all apart (well as far apart as you can) because water sometimes will seep into the screen or behind it.

Or you can blow dry it...either way...you have a 50/50 chance of it working again. Then again, you're talking to a guy that dumped his 100 dollar Motorola two way radio into a lake.

ok well i dropped it in the toilet when it was on....it flickered for a little...and then it turned off..... i tried to turn it back on, but it wouldnt get past the verizon logo...so then i took out the battery, and blow dried it on low setting for a while...then i let it sit out on a towel for around 5 hours or so....after that i plugged it into the charger without the battery, and it said battery needed....so i put the battery in, it tried to dial a number, but didn't and it said there was no service available....the screen then went blank.. (half of the screen was messed up it looked like there was water beneath the screen...

i then took out the battery and put it in a bowl of dry rice under a lamp...i will leave it there overnight and see what happens in the morning...have i already screwed it up?

yea it may be messed up already... you best bet would have been to not turn it on take the battery out and try either the rice idea or let it dry out. You could have shorted out something by the water acting as a conductor by trying to use it immediately. My dad lost countless pagers to the toilet back when those were used. HA

That's nothing, I resurrected a cell phone from the dead that had been dropped in SEA WATER, WHILE ON, with an overnight soak in %90 Isopropyl Alcohol. Be warned, this may cause adverse damage to a the LCD screen... but if it doesn't work anyway, then there is nothing to lose, right?

It kinda depends on your luck though i guess. My friend went to the beach with us a year or so back, walked out into the ocean for about 2 minutes, then freaked out when he remembered he had his phone in his pocket. He ran out of the water, pulled it out, and made a phone call. Sturdy phone is sturdy I suppose.

by taking it to the store they are going to take it apart and look for the little water sensor. This small piece of paper changes, typically to red, after contact with water. They will see this and then tell you that it has had water damage and that it isn't covered under any warranty unless you have the accidental damage stuff which costs like an extra $5 a month. If your contract is about up you may be able to get a discount on a new phone by renewing the contract.

Yea I heard that that may work because it fills the phone with the alcohol and pushes the water out and dilutes what was in it. The alcohol then dries faster than water. It also can clean out some of the residue which could have caused a short circuit and make the phone not work.

um because they charge like 100 bucks for a fix which takes about 2 weeks when i can just try and fix it myself at my house with the help of other people...or get a brand new one for about the same price that they can fix it for? i tried once more and it just says downloading...and stays there

Not sure about the phone (I have that same phone!) but something similar happened to my ipod Nano.

I left my ipod in my pocket and it got washed and dried. The only thing I can suggest is take the cover off and let it dry. Good luck man

The rice is the right thing to do. the rice will absoerb excess water. You can also stick it in the oven four about ten minutes at a low heat. It doesnt damage the phone and a lot fo water evaporates.
