bah, with all this stuff would it be better to do a system restore? or wipe the system?

no! that must be a last resort! (then u have to backup soooomuch you'll probably forget half - and dont forget about reinstalling EVERY little peice of software! and games and profiles! what a headache!) i bet you it can all be cured with yes you guessed it DRweb.
