Total system cost, $2188.74.

I am planning to overclock the 920 to 3.2GHz, essentially giving myself the performance of the 965 with less than one-third of the cost.

I will be updating my photobucket album with photos of the components as they come in, as well as of the build in progress.

I hate how they don't have a lot of CPU fans for the 1366 socket.

Of course, didn't the 1366 JUST come out not too long ago? Give it a month or two, and it'll pop up with tons of fans.

Otherwise, it looks like you have a good build. Bit pricey for me at the moment though, though I wouldn't need half that stuff (burner, back up battery etc).

Not bad at all, I build mine not a month ago, so good luck!! . Also, r u using the same display or getting a new one?? Didnt saw it on the list so. Post pictures if u can of the progress

Now crimson... After that build gimme your 7950GT that you said 2 month ago!

Lol, the 1366 Sockets aren't that much to choose from, I don't think much are gonna come out in 2 month are so... They have to test it, see defects, blah blah blah.... And I only choose the one with good reports/review.

Nice! I'll be watching :D

Too bad you didn't get the EE i7, but then again, not everyone has 1k+ to spend on a processor...myself included!

~Gooda~

One thing I really like about the new Core i7 series is how easily they can be overclocked.

Quote from a customer review on Newegg, for the Core i7 920, the same one that I am getting: "My processor overclocked to 3.2GHz by doing absolutely nothing besides turning up BCLK to 160MHz. Never tried the stock heatsink, but with a Noctua NU-12P SE1366 My cores run at 32C idle and 55C in Prime95 at 2.67GHz. Temps when OC'd to 3.2GHz are exactly the same!"

Oh, and Arn0t, I'm already getting a cooler, the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme 1366 RT.

... Bad news from the UPS mistakes department.

My case was orignally going to arrive last Friday, but UPS somehow misdelivered it to Live Oak, texas, which is sorta hard to imagine considering it is more than 200 miles from San Antonio.
So, I contacted Newegg live support, and they submitted a claim to UPS on my behalf to get a refund for the case. I had to reorder it, and it looks like it will arrive next Wednesday.

Nice build! I would've gone with almost the exact same thing. I'm planning to include water cooling though. :)

You could of saved some cash if you transfered like a harddrive, optical drive, and simple stuff instead of buying a new one.

But still that is one SEXY build.

Should have gone with the 4870 or 4870X2, way more for the buck with either card, and that PSU can handle four cards (Ive seen pics)

Maybe, with some games. Most of the games that I have were optimized for Nvidia cards.

Note: I plan to eventually upgrade to 2 GTX 280's, or step up to the new GTX 290's or whatever when Nvidia releases them.

I took a look at Toms Hardware video card benchmarks, specifically:

Except for the second to the last one, the GTX 280, single card, is #1.

Then, we go to:

Mass Effect

On the 1280x1024 benchmarks for Mass Effect, the GTX 280 is #1 or #2, nvidia cards on top. Then, for the 1920x1200 benchmarks, 2x GTX 280's in SLi are #1.

Crysis

Again, Nvidia cards are on top, the single GTX 280 is #2 and #1 for 1280x1024 and GTX 280 Sli #1 for 1920x1200.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X SP2

Here, Nvidia cards are resoundingly on top, and ATI isnt even coming close to becoming #1. Oddly enough, for all 4 FSX benchmarks, the single GTX 280 beats 2 GTX 280's in SLi.

Call of Duty 4 v1.6

Here, the single GTX 280 beats the 4870x2 on the first one. These two are neck and neck for the other 3 benchmarks, with nvidia and ati performances all over the place.

I am going to be using my current monitor for quite a while, it's a Samsung SyncMaster 940BX, 1280x1024 res. Overall, at that resolution, the single GTX 280 beats the 4870x2 by a wide margin.

My current system:
MSI 865PE Neo2-P
Pentium 4 3.0 Prescott
Patriot 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR
XFX GeForce 7950GT 512MB
2x Seagate Barracuda ES ST3250620NS 250GB in Raid0
Windows XP Professional SP3
Antec Nine Hundred

Those two 250GB's in Raid0 have about 60MB/s max xfer rate.

I am getting two Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB for my new system. I am planning to have them as two single hard drives, one for OS and main installation files, the other for page file and other stuff.
The WD6401AALS has an avg transfer rate of 95MB/s, which beats the old WD Raptor 10k hard drive.

'transfered like a harddrive'? no, thanks. Those ST3250620NS, while they still work great, are obsolete technology.

'But still that is one SEXY build.' - thanks, I like it too. :D

'Post loads of pictures/movies' - yeah, I'm definitely planning to. I will be recieving everything except the case on Monday and the case next Wednesday.
