Ram/Memory problem HELP ASAP

okay i just bought new 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers to upgrade from 2x1GB Cosair Value Select

Im running WinXp 32 bit. I know i can at least get 3 to 3 1/2 GB of ram to be recognized. The problem is my computer is only recognizing only 2 GB still. i dont know if it is my motherboard. which is an ASUS 570sli... Anyone have any suggestions to whats wrong?
 
okay i reseted my bios. but still no go. my computer is still only recognizing 2GB of RAM. Is there something i have to change with in the BIOS setup to get it to recognized additional ram?
 
(Forgive my shoutbox inquiry, should've known you'd posted a thread)

To my knowledge you shouldn't have to change anything in the BIOS UNLESS you get crashes after installing new RAM...
Checking right now to see if your Mobo supports DDR2 800...
it says it does.

Personally I'm out of ideas, I'll post back if I come across anything...
 
And yes 32 bit recognizes approx 3.2-3.4 gigs, I guess KillZone didn't read full post. It happens.

One more thought...
God forbid the RAM was D.O.A. (or 'dead on arrival') but if you want to, you could test the sticks one or two at a time and make sure they are all being recognized at least individually... it'd be nice to eliminate that possibility.

Yup, the memory on your vid cards counts towards total system memory, however doesn't show as that when your looking in system properties. You'll need to upgrade to a 64bit OS to get the full use of your memory

This is true, but that would only take him down to 3 gigs showing, not his current 2...
A 64 bit OS would definitely help, but that isn't the current problem, lol.

An example:
I have a GeForce GTX 260 with 896 MB of Ram, total count of onboard memory: 3.2 GB.

Using the same logic, if he has two 512MB cards, that totals to 1024 MB or 1 GB, normally leaving him with 3 GB.
 
ya i checked individually one by one in each slot. they all work perfectly. still the only problem is its recognizing only 2 GB
 
okay. soo i were to upgrade to a 64 bit OS. what would happen to all my programs and such? would they be all deleted and i would have to re download everything?
 
okay. i ran through my bios and found that my motherboard detects 4GB of RAM which comes out to 4096. but still i dont understand why Windows Xp isnt picking up the extra RAM?
 
If you are going for a 64-bit OS, yes, make a backup of all your personal files. Re-download all the programs you're currently using and transfer them to a removable media, DVD, portable HDD. You'll also need to check for x64 drivers for all your hardware.
 
ya it looks like if i want to get full access to 4GB i guess i gotta go 64 BiT OS.. anyone know any websites that i can get a deal on Vista 64?
