Steam Problem (Blank Menu and More)

My Problem has been resolved.

I have no idea what happened. I'm not sure if this was related but steam was running fine until I downloaded a free game called Warmonger. I uninstalled it right after I found out that my laptop wasn't really able to handle it. I run steam right after and I find this.


As you can see, the "connecting to account" screen is blank.


In this picture, my games menu is blank. The icons are still visible though.

This picture shows the launch options, which is also blank.

This last picture shows the steam taskbar menu, which is again, blank.

I have restarted Steam and my laptop already but the problem is still there.

Does anyone know what the cause is and the solution to fix it?

I followed Morbo's advice and did a system restore in SAFE mode. Everything is back to normal.

Go to C:\Program Files\Steam and delete everything EXCEPT Steam.exe and the SteamApps folder. After that, launch Steam.exe and it will do a reinstall.
 
It's impossible for me to delete everything. Some items can not be deleted.

edit: steam was still running. I have deleted those files.
 
How do you disable background apps? O_o You mean through task manager?

edit: when I installed the game, gamespy comrade, network 1.1, and some graphcis card driver was installed.
 
Sorry, I meant to try disabling your antivirus, etc. You should be able to do that by right clicking its icon in the system tray.
 
It would be a temporary test, and restarting your computer would launch them again.
 
even with my antivirus/firewall off, the results are still the same. I should mention that steam isn't the only program affected.
 
well, so far, CCleaner. The text is different, it looks like "safe mode" text. I think the installation/game messed with my resolution. I did go to display properties but it is normal (what I left it on) When I try to join a game in TF2 (by navigating through the blanks) the servers on my favorite list are tiny lines.
 
ok install steam then have you tryd to go to the installer for the steam and hit repair/missed files or messed up ?
 
You could use System Restore to go to a point before the problems started.

You might want to try System Restore again and choose a different restore point.

EDIT: I did the system restore in safe mode and now everything is fine. Thanks guys! :D
