virus, no accses to some sites?

alright i had like a bazillion of viruses after i visited a paintball site and cleaned them up nicely. But now whenever i go to thepiratebay.org or mininova.org they wont load

It could be for a unrelated reason but i doubt it. Any ideas?

(oh btw i used male ware bytes, avast, and adaware)

Torrent sites, no wonder you had so many viruses..

By the looks of thepiratebay.org, the site contains pirating tools and etc. The discussion of this type of stuff is not allowed on eGO or with eGO. If you mess with torrents, there is going to be consequences.

Can't put it any other way. Torrents are dangerous. The normal steps of removing a virus should be taken into consideration.

If these are the only sites you cannot access, you are not losing anything. Of course I can't tell you how to surf the web, but I can give helpful hints. *Hint*

Check out some recent threads, especially mine. RESPAWN suggested a helpful program to get rid of such things. It's called MALWARE Bites or something like that. It worked for me, and for Legend.

Do your programs have parental control settings? If they do, change the settings or disable it.

yeah thats what i used and it removed like 35 viruses, and i scan the torrents with http://www.virustotal.com/, or avast before i use what i downloaded.

i use torrents mainly for open source, linux, and stuff from revision3 which is 100% legal. sorry about talking about bittorent and breaking rules

i checked my physical firewall and my computer firewall, the only thing i can think of is being censored by COX (isp)

Two things:

1. Is discussion of *torrents* not permitted on eGO? I'm still new to eGO so I am not in any position to stake anything about policy. But I would think (note: read previous disclaimer) that discussion of torrents as a technology would and should be permitted.

Now discussion of using torrents (or any other tech: web, Gopher, FTP, telnet, IRC, SMTP, MIME, etc) to illegally obtain or reach unauthorized information, products, or resources could and should be prohibited...

For example, Ubuntu uses torrents as one method (of many) to distribute software.

Of course, then there's the question (legal? philosophical?) of whether torrent tracking sites, ala BP or Mini, are havens of ill-gotten goods or just an indexer ala Google....

That said, torrents can be and often are dangerous. It's very much a downloader beware type thing.

2. More on point: Slusser, what happens when you to try to reach a site? If your PC became infected, I'm going to guess you took some steps to clean it up.

A further guess, since you can't reach those sites anymore (I assume via a web browser that works otherwise) is that those domains were placed into a loopback index.

Some security programs consider those sites dangerous and will redirect any attempt to connect them back to your PC and thus fail in the attempt to connect. Does connecting to other sites work?

sorry for spawning the discussing of torrents. pirating ilegaly is bad bad bad. I occasionally use torrents to download software that the company (willingly and knowingly)put up. It companies like ubuntu or revision3 to transfer their content with minimal server strain.

lets stop now, before someone gets in trouble
