hey guys, seeing as there are so many tech heads in here, i might as well post up my soon to be first rig up here ;)

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=11948188

i already have a 8800gt that im going to put in there so no reason to buy another new one now. after a while i cant really get much out with only 2gb ram (dont ask lol) so since i cant put more then 2 gb of ram into my computer, i decided to just upgrade some stuff. i also want a new cpu, gonna toss my duel core out, gonna need a better one sooner or later, but im going to get the processor last :p

let me know what you guys think, and any advice on my first build and what i need to watch out for would be great.

also if any one wants to suggest what parts would be better or more efficient, please do so, and ill take in consideration of it :) i already have $100 in reserve, i just need to work a couple of more weeks, and im golden XD

edit: o yea, looking for a nice heat sink that might go with that quad core ;)

hey fatty mic fat, r u lookin 2 do tri-sli?? just wonderin since the motherboard that u have selected has 3 pci-e x16 2.0 slots. also if ur lookin 2 save some $$, id suggest going w/ this memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122 the timings are bout the same (u wont notice the difference on that) & also the bus speed is a lil less (but u wont notice that either) & the great thing bout this memory is that itll work w/ ur motherboard since my motherboard maxes out @ 1066 as well, but im usin my old memory (which is 800). also u run into another issue fatty mic fat, according to newegg.com, these are the only available hsf that will work on am2+ cpu's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...et 754 / 939 / AM2 / AM2+ / LGA775 / LGA 1366
I would highly suggest that you look into Intel quad core cpu's. They dont run as hot as AMD cpu's not to mention that most of newegg's stuck of hsf are mostly designed for dual core cpu's.

thanks a lot, yea i was thinking about going Intel, so ill take up your advice for it, thanks, which Intel CPU would you recommend? i never really followed Intel :/ so im going to give it a try, and can you also recommend a good mobo for Intel CPU's too? and no, im not going to sli, but just in case, 2 slots wouldn't hurt, but one would be preferred.

thanks for the help so far, already learned from just two posts :)

edit: i still hate and love your avatar pillar XD

now when it comes 2 intel cpu's r u wantin 2 go for a dual-core or quad-core cpu? heres the current most popular dual-core & quad-core cpu's: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...mpareItemList=N82E16819115017,N82E16819115037
the great thing bout quad core cpu's is that video game companies are still working on creating games that will be able to effectively use the technology, but also when it comes to dual core cpu's, i really dont forsee that technology going outta business for id say 2-3 years (if not more). most if not all computer manufacturing companies are using dual-core cpu's (mostly amd to help save consumers some $$ but unfortunately most consumers dunno bout the heat issues w/ amd). also when it comes to motherboards, heres an option (it has 4 ram slots so u can get more memory if needed) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128367

Please take off that ANTEC 900 and get a NZXT Tempest did my first build ever on it and i love it so roomy :D annd good airflow

hmmmmm, that is quite expensive o.O lol

thanks pillar, but maybe im not going to intel after all. its not just because it is expensive, i bought a graphic card for almost $300 for crying out loard >.< but like i said before, im going to get the cpu last, and i dont want to get the case, mobo, and ram first, but then no cpu :/

and besides, i have a dual core right now, it hasnt failed me yet, and runs great. its a amd and im not even overclocking it. i dont plan on overclocking the quad core, since i dont see the reason why i should. the amd cpu im getting is quite cheap, and also i think the case and heat sink i will be getting will keep it quite cool, since im not going to overclock anything.

what do you think about that pillar?

o yea, i listen to what you said about the my chosen mobo before, and i didnt pay attention when i chose it, so im thinking about changing to either one of these,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128370

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128373

what do you think about the two? i might go sli, so i think the better choice would be the second one? and a second hard drive would be nice now, ill look for one now :p

im also having a dilemma on the quad core, should i go with a 9600 or a 9950? is there really much of a difference of the two? depending on how much it is, i have to wait a little longer or get it earlier, depends on what you guys can tell me about them :p

edit: and spy1, thanks a lot, i think i might change to that, its good looking and has an awesome air flow, better then the antec i chose, thanks for the heads up :) until i find anything better, ill go with that for now, i have been searching for a long time for a case with a better air flow then the antec, but the ones i found have the power supply on the top and not the bottom, i want to choose one with it on the bottom, and thanks to you, i found one :) again, thanks a lot for the heads up on the case :)

let me ask you somethin? is there a major big rush to upgrade your cpu (esp since u say u have no intentions on overclockin the cpu)? i would wait til newegg has a better selection of hsf for amd quad core cpu's since ur crazy bout goin that direction. i would really suggest that you hold off on upgrading the cpu & keep what u have & get a better motherboard that will support ur current cpu & will have 4 slots for memory, this way u wont be spendin ne where near 450 bux. also i agree w/ the suggestion on the case, go w/ the tempest, its the same price as the antec nine hundred rite now, but the great thing is that the tempest has alot more room than the nine hundred does.

heres some extra info: in case you ever do decide to upgrade to a quad-core cpu, you can get the 9600 which looks like a very good cpu to get & both ur current cpu & the 9600 will both work on this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186141

Ok I build rigs, have for years...if your going to spend low dollars on a board stay away from asuk, and gigatank......the first mobo maker is?Biostar..the first mobo to set a world record and holding...this is a fantastic board i have it ,,,it over clocks like beast.have my amd64x24400 runs at 2.3 got it on air to 2.95 stable....http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138113 ..with this cooler. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125
and this ram over clocked from ddr800 to 1050
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098
and i have a xfx8800xxxgt[g92]512mb also with a cooler with turbo fans havent seen temps above 44c on card.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186016.
cod 4 everything maxed 80 too 120 fps..cod waw everything maxed 70 too 100 fps.

ok, heres the updated list of what i will buy now.

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=11978068

i think its a good improvement, from my first list (see link on first post) and also my budget, saved about $100 thanks to you guys, thanks.

now another question, the dvd driver that im using right now, can i just switch it over to my new mobo? theres really not a difference right? and also, is that ac cooler going work with the quad core and mobo that im getting? just a few more questions until i finalize everything, i dont want to waste money on a dvd driver if i can use my old one, and get a cooler that dont work with the stuff im getting o.O

hope fully i can order soon, and ill let you guys know from there XD

so it will most likely look something like this when finished -

tempest mid tower (kind a of like a full tower lol)
foxconn a7gm motherboard
amd 9600 2.3gh.z quad core with an ac cooling freezer 64 pro 92mm cpu cooler
g.skill 4gb ram (2x2gb)
evga 8800gt video card
Antec earthwatts EA500 500W power supply

i think my power supply should handle it all (no overclock as final product, maybe later down the road)

ps: have anyone used the bill me later option on new egg? i was thinking about using that because i do not have a credit card, or a debt card. im to lazy to get any type of license, and my passport needs to be renewed. so anyone knows exactly how the bill me later option works?

also, any other suggestions are still welcome, i am not going to buy anything until most likely this weekend, or next week, until everything is finalized.

Is there some reason, other than money, that you're getting a micro ATX motherboard for a full-size ATX case? That seems like complete overkill to me.

Other than that, looks like a very solid system. As for the DVD drive, it's up to you. I always purchase a new drive each time I build a new system. Over time, drives tend to wear down, so the risk of failure grows. Getting a new drive usually ensures that your drive will work out of the box. That samsung DVD drive is a great choice. Rock solid drive. Both I and my fiance have variants of those in our current systems.

well thats a mid tower, but from what i have read from the reviews, its ALMOST like a full tower lol

and comparing the foxconn with the biostar mobo, i really dont see much of a difference other then biostar is a atx motherboard, has a on board geforce 8 series video card, and holds a max of 16gb ram. the foxconn has a ati 3200 on board vid card, a micro atx, and has a max of 8gb ram. everything else is pretty much the same.

so it made more sense to go after the micro atx, because its cheaper, and im not going to put more then 8gigs of ram (even though im not) and im not going to use the on board video card since i have a 8800gt. so i really dont see the point of buying a atx mobo, to the cheaper micro atx mobo. is there a difference i dont realize other then the space availability? :/ if you have any info on why i should go with the atx mobo instead of the micro, then i wouldnt mind paying up an extra 20 - 30 dollars for the mobo. other then that, i see no reason to get another mobo :/

and its a MID TOWER, not a FULL TOWER to clear up any misunderstandings :p

thank you for the advice on the dvd drive mad, im going to get a new one then.

and also, when i put everything in, will everything be detected by it self? or do i have to install whatever that comes with the motherboard? i already know i have to reinstall vista, pillar already told me that, thanks pillar :)

bill me later means u sign up for there credit card,so if you dont have credit you wont get it.

Well foxconn board are new ....i have built with them and 4 of them didnt last 4 months..
and the antec power supply dont have the amps 17 wont cut it,and your paying to much. i suggest this,i have this in my other rig that has been on for about 8 months now,and has 20 amps on the 12v rail1..plus its cheaper.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152028
or this 1 i have in my main game rig 22amps on 12v rail1 and this rig never gets shut off its been on for about a year now...and its still cheaper and better.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152035

no game uses a full duel core technology yet at all...plus the quads from amd have troubles.
go triple core,or just a high clock speed x2
this is what i am replacing mine with.I just built one of these with that biostar mobo and have it oced to 4.1 on air..with the freezer pro.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773

but what do i know ?I only do this for a living.

hey, im new, so ill go with suggestions that you guys give me. what do you recommend i add to my list? or take out from my list? and i already have the antec power supply, i was going to add it to my new case, but since now that you have told me it wont run it, i guess im going to have to buy another new power supply T^T (and by the way, i got the antec psu on sale a few months back, worth about the same as the raid 520 watts, maybe a little cheaper, dont recall :p)

ok now that i know about the duel cores (remember, im new, so im still learning :p) i might just keep my old one, its a amd 4200 2.2ghz, i think that would be fine for now right? or should i just spend some on a triple core instead of a quad core? because i would be paying the same amount on a triple core for a quad core :/ and if i can, ill moe likely transfer my old cpu cooler over to my new mobo, its keeping it cool so far, or i guess it is >.<

so big, since you do this for a living, might you help me? what mobo i should go with, a biostar? should i just stick with my antec psu, or do i have to upgrade it to the raid 530w one or a more powerful one?

any suggestions on what to put in or take out would be great help.

ps: please bear with me, i know i keep coming up with questions, but i want to learn how to build a computer, and maybe do it some time in the future, for now, i just want to make sure my first rig will run solid :)

and can someone explain how raid works? o.O

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009153/1009153sp2.shtml

that is my rig right now, not bad, but i want to just update some stuff for it.

heres the list that i came up with now.

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=8535885

as of right now, i dont want that power supply, and once you take a look at my rig, maybe you can suggest from there? i think ill keep my current duel core, unless you think its a tiny bit outdated :p o and the motherboard, how is the one i have right now? should i replace it? it just keep using it, and get more ram for the extra two slots?

well, i guess we can talk from there i guess. im not really sure anymore, this is hard, so much to learn XD

but i am getting the case, no doubt about that.

well 1 it doesent say anything about your board...
2 the ram you picked is a higher speed that whats in your board now meaning it might not even work,if the board only supports up to 533.. as for your cpu mines only a 2.3 but I oced right out...thats up to you if u want to upgrade that. your power supply is only 300 watts
WAY NOT ENOUGH at all..that wont even run you graphics card.
and your going to pay 109 for a case? a case is a case is acse...
my case is a 20 dollar special with a plexi glass side,i spent 30 bucks on fans cut the holes myself.. for that price of a case you could get a 40 dollar case and a new cpu ..
but im all about getting more for less.

hey fatty, just so ya know, u really need a power supply of at least 500w in order to run a decent video card. if u check out most of the l8est video cards, itll say that it will require at min 400w, so get a min of 500w power supply. i also agree w/ big, keep ur current dual core cpu, but u def need a better motherboard. the following board is good in case ur tired of ur current dual core cpu & wanna go quad core, not 2 mention if u wanna do sli: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130168f

hahahaha, yea, sorry about not clearing anything up >.<

firstly, im not that great with my hands (unlike you XD) so thats why im getting the case, and since i can add another 2gigs of ram (i just found that out >.<) onto my current motherboard, i dont think i even need to change it, just add another 2 gigs of ram. thinking about adding one of these, and new egg said it should run with my model, because of their ram check option - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134046
which do you think i should go for? and will it run properly with the other 2 gigs of ram i already have?

ok now, i already have 8800gt video card, how can i run it on a 300w psu? well that simple, i dont, like i said before somewhere (or if i didnt, im sorry) i already have, key words, have that antec earthwatts 500w psu :)

and back to the case, its mid tower, and has 4 120mm fans and 2 140mm fans, so 6 in total, and it also has a 20 mail and rebate, so its really $90 for the case. i dont know, is it really still that much? i think its worth it :/ (dont know how good the fans are, but from the reviews i have read, pretty good)

o, i cant find the specs for my currant motherboard >.<

hope that clears some things up. all in all, right now, i might not even need to spend, say over $150 to upgrade my computer just a little. any thoughts on that?

pillar, hmmm, i dont know, i was thinking about going with a biostar, good reviews, and lots of people say its good. so most likely, (now i keep changing my mind >.<) i will change my motherboard, add ram, and get a case.

so something like this i guess :/
