to the clown thing, well anybody can go in and edit stuff with their cracked version of the betas. This is coming straight from Microsoft, so you know that it will work EXACTLY how its supposed to.

anyways, i was going to reformat tomorrow, so i figure ill wait 1-2 more days to do that and let windows 7 download. and then burn it to a DVD :D

This is the newest build, the leaked one is how many months old. Windows 7 is to be released toward the end of the year. Its not meant for your main OS either. It wont vanish if you dont format your harddrive. You make a 2nd partition for the beta.
 
I have build 7000 thats the version going to be released tonight or tomorrow.the one leaked is 7 days old dont ya read the news.I had the alpha version which was total junk last spring..it just like vista with way more security junk.and acts like it ,32 bit uses 3.5 gigs 64 16 gigs.
 
Ok well build 7000 was released to MSDN subscribers before others. I'm sure someone uploaded it to a torrent site.

windows 7 is a modded vista, they even said it is. They took all the good things and kept them, then got rid of the bad things, so im eagerly waiting for it.

vista wasnt all that bad, it just sucked for poor people with less than decent computers.

there is a patch for the mp3s, it does work, all the vista drivers work for it, ethernet always works for me.

Well atm Vista has it set at 128 gb's for 64-bit ... so i assumeitl stay the same
 
For the memory question 32bit has a limitation mathematically. It will still only support 4.096gb total which includes any video card memory. Which is why with a 512mb gpu you only get about 3.4gb recognized in windows if you have 4gb
 
Windows 7 Build 7000 64-bit up and running on my machine. No problems so far, except my zune software wont install.

Got Windows 7, it's pretty much an improved vista

They rushed out Vista, so 7 is more of an upgrade of Vista than a whole new OS.

i installed it and found a lot of bugs, but i guess thats normal since its a beta, i dont recommend doing a clean install with it

I'm using Windows 7 right now and everything seems great! IE8 is super fast and I haven't encountered much lag yet. I'm going to try some gaming in a few hours. :)
 
Just waiting for TF2 to update, then I'll get back to you guys with the results.

EDIT: Nope, gonna install L4D instead. TF2 has an hour worth of updates to download. >_<
EDIT2: Alright guys, L4D runs beautifully, possibly even better than with Vista.

Well, that was a lot of [not] fun. I downloaded it. I made Windows 7 a little shrine. I prayed that it would work. It didn't.

Mine booted from the CD to a blue wallpaper with some text in the bottom right corner. Didn't go anywhere after that. Now, to unpartition my hard drive...
 
I've been playing around with the Windows 7 beta; so far, can't say anything bad about it.

I'm coming off of Vista, so the first thing I can say is yes, it is faster. It starts and shuts down faster. I run Microsoft office 2007, and there is a noticeably faster startup for Word and Excel, and alt-tabbing between programs is crisper, too.

Drivers for my video card and TV tuner were pre-installed for me (nice). My anti-virus software, which was Vista compatible, would not work with Windows 7, so I downloaded one of the recommended programs.

All of my games (so far!) are working fine. The only program I've had issues with so far is the Trend-Micro.

The install procedure was pretty much identical to Vista's, and the gui interface has a very Vista feel to it.


EDIT: I've been running the Windows 7 beta for about a week now. Only a few minor issues so far: windows exporer 8 has intermittent lag and occasionally freezes (i installed firefox and it works perfect), the latest version of ventrillo would not install, but the previous version works fine.

Things I like so far: open windows management: if you have multiple open windows, and want to arrange them, you click in the title bar, drag the window to an upper corner, and it's automatically arranged in split screen for you. It sounds trivial but works very well.

The device management screen has been changed a little: now all of your devices are grouped under the Devices and Printers control panel. When I plugged in my mp3 player (sansa fuze), it displayed the following:

it was nice to see the battery life, have the options for reading the user's manual, or update the firmware.

I thought about building a new intel i7 system with windows 7 beta, but I'll be darned if I can't get an i7 Dell, similar config, from Costco for about the same price but with warranty. You were once able to save some decent bucks by building your own config. Oh well.
 
i think ill wait till its fully done, i dont want to install when its on beta, i know many people have it, but i rather wait, did the same with vista, gonna do it with this XD. but thanks for the heads up guys, with all the reviews i been reading, many have said its better then vista, and i can hardly disagree XD

Well, by building your own rig you can control the quality of the parts that go in it. It's not as likely to blow up if you put decent parts in it.

There is that. It's just that this seems a pretty good deal, plus it has 2 year warranty if it does blow up. I've built two systems in the past. One (first attempt) was an ill-fated AMD Athlon platform that lasted a year before going belly-up; the second, and current, is my old P4 system I currently have, but it's terribly outdated and runs TF2 like crap, even after upgrading to the 3.0GHz HT and 2 GB memory on XP. It's been good for 4+years, but now I need another comp and don't feel like building unless there's a very good reason to do so.
