Help Needed

Well, parents being parents, they don't like their kids playing games. This issue came up on Friday when I was told that I would not be allowed my gaming computer any longer. Just cause they heard from one parent that they don't allow their kids to play games...They've gone past the border of reasonable to unfair; I was already limited to only 2 hours on the weekends... Any help getting me out of this torture would be great.

That's too bad. Most parents won't try to see the whole picture when it comes to their child's interests. I'm 36 and have a 14 year old son. Consequently my gaming addictions have transfered to him but at least I know what he is into. The real trick is to get Mom and Dad interested too. Maybe start them off easy with a boardgame. Let the sense of fun, companionship, and challenge slowly sink in. Then explain to them that's what online gaming is like: playing with friends, having fun, and challenging yourself.

Yeah the helping extra around the house and doing well in school thing is a good idea. If they think your life is in order. I am sure they wouldnt mind you having some fun. And to be honest they aren't all wrong.

on serious note, definitly do what beta said. try to maintain their happiness with you. i know thats what i do when my dad started working back home again. i just keep the grades looking good, do chores, try to be useful like clean up after myself(basically impossible) and do the chores without them having to ask me to do them. once u do these things, you'll be gettin owned back in no time

My parents usually tell my brother and I that we're not allowed to play games any longer. Only 3 hours on the weekends and none on the weekdays. Well, we didn't "listen" to them and when they came back from home, they're usually happy. So, no punishment!

To help you, I agree with most of these helpful statements. Some of them are to get good grades, ask if they need help, and you'll be getting some game time in the next week or so.

Yeah, my parents have been talking about how I play too much.
Its a bit harder for me because my brother has NEVER gotten a grade under a 95% and is going to MIT next year. Since my grades arent that great at school, my parents are comparing me to him saying that if I didnt play games and study more I could be as smart.

When things get busy around the house, just do some chores and be nice to your parents and they might let you play a little more.

As others have said, helping around the house as much as you can will help the issue. As will getting good grades. Also try your best not to argue with your parents. What they say does go. So just try to win them over and always be respectful. I think that is one thing American teenagers are lacking today is respect toward their parents.

My parents call it an obsession for me. I agree with what everyone above this post has said. You should be nicer to your parents, cooperate with them some more if you dont already. Don't stay up late all the time. Then once in a while you can ask to stay up like 30 minutes later, and soon your time will be extended.

Well, the most important thing is to keep your grades up. That is the ONLY reason why I even get to play games on every day but Saturday. Also, doing things for them, and the occiasional "I'm in the middle of somthing" should help too. But, if your grades are high and you stay out of trouble, you should be well on your way to get back to gaming (at least in my house).

Well, my excuse is that studies have shown that Brain Surgeons who have played video games in their youth tend to be better with Hand-Eye coordination. They tend to be better paid, and more respected. Even if you are not just say it, it got me out of a lot of crap. Also say that it opens up career fields in gaming technology and design.
