Hey, a couple weeks ago i got a HORRIBLE virus from a skin mirror on FPSbanana. Do keep in mind it was not the user's fault just the mirror. Anywho i believe it was a Trojan vundo, or something like that. I have been trying to get rid of it by running things like spybot search & destroy, Malware bytes, and AVG. Now i thought i had cleared my computer of the infection but a week or so ago i tried to launch Counter Strike: Source, and right about when it tried to send my client info i got the blue error screen. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about, The "Windows has encountered a serious problem and must shutdown to prevent data loss. If this is the first time you've experienced this screen....blah blah blah." When i rebooted my computer i ran every virus control program i had and i found 3 vundos. And i have every time I've tried to play CS:S since. So any suggestions on how to fix it without wiping the hard drive would be greatly appreciated. Oh and this only happens when i run steam games, i deleted my steam folder and completely reinstalled all of my steam games but it did nothing.

you got the blue screen of death!!!!!! Sorry, just an inside thing with my family

Anyways, have you checked your Task Manager to find anything that shouldn't be there such as IEXPLORE.exe which is obvious is a virus of j.exe anything like that, cause they can be the problem sometimes

You could also try downloading Spyware Doctor too to check for viruses that may not have been found by other such as AVG

I think that this case you could have a Backdoor.Agent which lets in the viruses ive said above, if you can post SS of your task manager i should be able to tell if they are not meant to be but it should seem obvious looking at them just dont delete winlogon.exe!!!! something like that if you have that, it is your windows menu and your shortcuts

Hope that any of this helps know what is feels like getting a crummy virus always get the same when i go on G mod but not as serious unless i let em build up

best thing to do is backup all your files, reinstall windows, download all necessary drivers and continue with your life. =)

but don't do it if you aren't "capable".

-Windows Defender
-Superantispyware (trial version)
-Ad Aware (trial version)
-Avast!

if none of these work I would reinstall and wipe the drive.

Well If you're up for the challenge do a reformat. It literally guarantees the removal of almost anything. (Except things that can boot before windows, in some instances only a few have managed to do so). Although you don't sound very tech savvy and you really don't want to try a reformat without proper instruction. Well give a few of the examples above a try.

I guess the trojan or virus infected and left a few traces of registry changes, which are causing these blue screens.

I don't think ad-aware has a freeware version anymore.

Avast, spybot and defender are good to try, but put your computer in safe-mode and run the programs there, you will find more viruses that way.

When all else fails, and I've had to do this, ask for help. I went to a GREAT forum called tech support forum, you can google it. Once there they can have you run whats called a "hijackthis" file. It runs a diagnostic, the forum leaders will look at it and have you run some small utilities to get it corrected. Worked for me.
