I just got dod today, ive been playing it for about 2 hours and so far i am horrible, is there a huge learning curve for this game or is everyone just really good?

Try reading this.

Relax and have fun. Ignore your score. There are no limits to respawn so go die heroically. Try to make flag captures. That's fun. Don't forget to use your grenades. Freindly fire is turned off on eGO servers so go ahead and shoot through your teammates.

And yes. Some of them are very good indeed.

It takes time to learn all the weapons and their tendencies, along with the maps and such. And also player tendencies, you'll get it eventually. It is fun and easy once you get used to it.

every game takes time getting used to

Just play the game and have fun , you'll get the hang of it in no time

with enough practice, who knows... you might even kill me!!
i'm kidding I'm not really that good

but seriously, have fun ...whatever :)

I've found that in DOD:S knowing the map is crucial to success. My KDR is nearly halved when I play a map that I don't know well when compared to a map that I do...it's all about knowing where to hide/where others hide. I'd start with the Thompson or MP44 - those are the most "point and shoot" oriented weapons, and IMO they're the easiest to master.

Don't feel bad man. I have been playing the game for 5 years and I still suck. :o:(

lol in tf2 it takes about 10 minutes to become decent at every class

Hmmm... dunno... I tried TF2 (for 2 days) and sucked pretty bad at it. Different players have different tactics... I, for instance, need to know the map... otherwise I feel lost and distracted... and consequently get killed a lot. I play mostly on dod_flash and mostly have at least 'positive' (i.e. > 1) KPD... but put me on strand/kalt/ava and I'm just a useless practice shooting target. :(

So don't worry... just give it a little time... get used to the weapons and maps... if you are generally good at FPS, you'll catch on very quick. I would recommend flash...because I personally found it easy to figure out...

I also liked dod_jagd... though it is a pretty fun map.... wish we had a server for it too. ;)

There is a huge learning curve, but once you get the hang of everything you should do just fine. =)

Its hard to play dod in the beginning, but once you get the hang of the classes and the weapons its pretty easy

20 hours should give you enough experience to start hitting what you're shooting at. I would start with the support classes. Both of the main infantry rifles have a pretty steep learning curve. Assault can also be fun, but that usually has a lower number of slots?

Anyway, do yourself and your team one major favor: don't choose sniper or rocket until you've gotten comfortable with the game. Both are severely limited and usually very necessary for most maps.

Rifleman, Assault, and Support are unlimited (no upper number of players) classes. Machine Gun is limited to two players per team. Rocket and Sniper are limited to one or two players per team I'm not sure which.

The support weapons, BAR and STG44 have a nasty kick which can be compensated for slightly by crouching and greatly by going prone. You are very vulnerable changing from upright to prone and back because you cannot fire at this time. I used to die very often when dropping to prone to decrease the recoil effect. Now I spend more time crouching. You are slower and quieter when you crouch.

When using support weapons pull back on the mouse as you fire to keep on target and fire in short bursts. You can also fire at their feet and let the recoil walk the shots up to their head. It takes practice.

When using the German Rifle stand still and its 100% accurate. Its my favorite gun just for that reason, and pick up grenades hitting "e" while looking at them to save someones (Hopefully mine!) life
