*Make sure to always look down as far as it will let you go before you jump--this will also decrease the ammount of damage that you take.

*Wait until the height of your jump before firing your rocket for maximum height of your rocket jump.

*If you want your jump to be for distance, but not go super high, turn around while running, jump backwards and fire the rocket a little in front of your feet as you jump.

*For wall jumping get against the wall and fire a rocket to get the best height possible for you--use the first tip to help. Then aim a little in front of your feet while still moving upward and continually shoot your rockets. (To find the perfect spot in front of your feet to fire the rockets you'll just have to play with it a little) If you want to launch backwards while wall jumping than aim it directly in front of you and fire.

I'm not that great at wall jumping....so that tip is just what I know. But the most important thing about rocket jumping in general that makes people lose so much height is not looking down as far as you can before jumping. This GREATLY increases your height and decreases the damage you take.

Thanks, I had no idea how to rocket jump before lol

It gets a lot more fun once you get the hang of it. I seen some soldiers jumping out of the water in 2Fort, that was pretty impressive.

Also, I think that if you crouch and then rocket jump immediately after you go higher. I could be wrong though. >.>

Okay, not here to bang on you or anything, but it's spelled hEight, not hight. Sorry, but stuff like that really bugs me. Thanks for the tips!

I notice that most people who do not know how to rocket jump are scared to try because they don't want to lose health and then go get killed quicker.

you have unlimited lives, practice makes perfect. When your running around on a map, don't be afraid to start rocket jumping everywhere.

There are also some good rocket jumping maps you can download and practice on.

Thats good, I used to spend alot of times doing jump maps for fun, so I kinda knew this already, demo jumping however takes much more skill =P I can use 3 stickys and live if I time it to perfection (*note you may die when you land but hey, who cares?) I may just do a guide for the Demoman who can tell?!

Thanks for the info. I tried rocket jumping before in the past and never succeeded. I'll try those tips for sure.

Crouching is absolutely key to getting high rocket jumps. I use rocketjumps on the zig zag portion of cashworks to get behind heavys, pyros, etc. and take out the snipers/medics. Just make sure you know where the med packs are, you'll need them. Nothing like death-from-above :)

There are more advanced rocket jumping such as wallclimbing and double jumping..You need that to finish RJ Rocketeer Adv. Still trying to complete it...

- You can also use rocket jump to escape enemies. Aim at an extreme angle, jump and fire. You will go propelling. I do this all the time, it works.
- Rocket jumping can also be used to 'flank' enemies from above. Make sure they can't airshot you to death.

Death from above.

Sounds like you've never rocketjumped, or demojumped efficiently. Who cares if you can survive 3 stickies, thats just throwing them down in a triangle. Davethegreat and I have both done some hilarious uber 8 sticky jumps but more explosives doesn't give "skill." If you can demojump from battlement to battlement on 2fort with one sticky, or if you can take gravelpit and jump from the center corner to the spire point in one sticky then you're golden. With soldier, rocketjumping is more useful to counter the slower speed, steal health packs from enemy scouts, and landing on enemy medics.

Well my tips would be... if you're going to rocketjump its preferred to be landing near a healthpack to instantly recover losses. You deny them the health, and not pay the cost of your fast travel. And if anything, rocketjumping can be your escape card. Hardly anyone in a regular public server can ever stop you from getting away if you rocketjump out. Healthpacks are faster than 16 second respawn.

And to Kunai, you need walljumping to get passed the rj_rckteer , the really easy version of that map... infact any rocket jump_ map requires it.

If anyone wants to they can contact me, every now and then I'm hosting rocketjump maps for some friends to play around with.

...demo jumping however takes much more skill =P

Sorry, anyone who makes that claim obviously has very little skill/experience playing this mod. There is only one instance where pipejumping (not gay stickies that you are accustomed too) is deemed as hard and that's Mule's (believe that's him) video of him doing quad-based maps with nothing but short blues. Otherwise it's pathetically easy.

Nah theres some skill behind stickies, but nothing you'd ever use in a game. Jump_hobo is a demoman jump map where you have to utilize some sticky tricks. In a regular game, most rocket jumpers and demo jumpers hardly need to do anything relatively to their jumps. Get to jump_pagoda, jump_hobo, rj_rckteer_adv and you're in a whole new game. Those 2 classes require a whole different set of skills compared to the other to complete the real jump maps so its hard to compare which is "better/harder."

But there are more soldier tricks to learn than demoman tricks, and I've actually found a few ways to use the soldier tricks in actual matches.

But for regular pub play, minor air strafing is probably the hardest thing either would have to learn.

Ya you can get to one battlement to the other with one stickie, i have perfected the stickie jump and mostly jocket jumping but other than the wall jumping, thats rather difficult. so u dont need to croutch while in air to get better height?

I'm just tired of reiterating my self all over the place so I'll sum it up instead and leave you guys to hopefully figure it out on your own. In competitive play you can kiss the demo goodbye and you'll see the soldier jumping everywhere. With the addition of the medic combo in TF2, it certainly has broken previous TF models, though that is no surprise because Valve has always been known to screw every game they've taken over (1.6 anyone?) As for specialty maps I know all about them and it still stands that 'sticky' (which is easier than pipe) jumping is pathetically easy compared to rocket jumping. Enjoy.
