Hey all, I just logged into steam and noticed that L4D is now %50 off for this whole weekend, that's $25!! That's an awesome deal, but here's the thing:

Should I Buy Left 4 Dead even though I have.....

Windows Vista (I have it set to look like the old version of windows.) xD

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.60 Ghz

1.5 GB RAM

Nvidia Geoforce 6150SE nForce 430 (It came with the CPU, it's not a custom card. I know, it sucks balls.)

Minimum Requirements for L4D:

Supported OS: Microsoft Windows XP / Vista / Vista64 (Check.)
Processor: Pentium 4 3.0GHz (Not Check...D: )
Memory: 1 GB (Not a problem.)
Graphics: 128 MB, Shader model 2.0, ATI 9600, NVidia 6600 or better
Hard Drive: At least 7.5 GB of free space (I don't really care about the Graphics, game counts more for me.)
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card (Check.)

Recommended L4D Requirements:

Supported OS: Microsoft Windows XP / Vista / Vista64
Processor: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz
Memory: 1 GB
Graphics: Shader model 3.0, NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better

OK, here's what I propose. IF I decide to buy the game, I will run it in a window. I know this won't help much, but I think it will run better than FULL SCREEN. Part of my problem is that, My monitor is about 27 inches. :/ (The monitor problem isn't such a biggie, since I have an LG TV around 20 inches that can also be used as a PC monitor.)

As for the graphics card and RAM, I plan to upgrade soon. And I am planning to go to Circuit City when they have their clearance sale. Which is, around now I think, and get a 1GB RAM and maybe an NVIDIA 8200 way cheaper than it's original price. Of course, I have to know if I have PCI Express and my motherboard can handle it.

As for the processor, well, that's a bit more complicated....

Any suggestions and thoughts about this?

I would definitely check out some of the online deals through the eGO Mall (NewEgg). You will probably find a better deal than circuit city, even when they are on clearance. $129 after MIR 9800GTX is not a bad deal. RAM is super cheap online. If you have 64bit Vista go ahead and grab a 2x2GB kit, otherwise I'd just pop another 1GB stick in. More RAM is going to improve your vista experience drastically. I'm not up to date on what ATI has to offer in the budget-gpu arena, but it may also be worth looking into. Either way, I would think that you would eventually want to be able to play fullscreen (I always see better performance at fullscreen), at your monitors native resolution, and that's going to require a new card. $25 is a good deal, I'd jump on it.

ATI 4850 for $145 at Newegg. I have one. Runs everything. Crysis, Bioshock, HL2, etc...

Windows Vista is ok
1.5GB of ram is ok
64 X2 processor is probably ok
6150SE nForce - Isn't this intergrated on-board graphics? mmm, you might be sharing RAM with your system here....

I'd look at it like this: Buy L4D while it's on sale. If your PC runs it, at least marginally, you can upgrade later and you'll already have L4D at a great price.

I run left 4 dead with a amd athlon 64 2.2ghz 3500+ single core, 2 gigs of ram and a 9500gt...

But i know for a fact your graphics card cant run it...

Soo invest in a cheapo card or if you want the power go with a higher card..

You do have integrated graphics on your mobo and that really sucks:mad: and the specs on your mobo doesn't show it supports the 64 x2.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/mobo_gpu_tech_specs.html

But on the up side it does show you have a pci express x16 slot that you can use for a vid card.:)
You might want to check your documentation that came with your system.

Yeah, the graphics card IS integrated and it does take away from my RAM.

Also, I plan on upgrading my video card soon and probably buy a 1GB stick of RAM as well.

I'm probably going to buy the game, but I have some thoughts in the back of my head biting me. What If I can't even run it marginally? Also, I failed BOTH tests on the website alpha gave me because I didn't pass the video card test.

Since I failed the tests, should I upgrade latest and buy the game then? Or risk it and buy the game now because it's half price, and have the possibility of not being able to play it for a while yet have the chance to upgrade?

My results of the minimum requirements:

What should I do guys? D;

Well i grade your Video card and get the game since it's 25$

I'm going to get it, And hope my PC parts comes,

You should buy the game now while it's on sale and get a vid card when you can.

That is, unless you're not going to get a video card in the next year, by which time 1) the game will most likely drop in price and 2) steam will probably have another sale.

Well, I bought the game. To my surprise, IT RUNS FANTASTIC. :O

I doesn't slow down (Only times it does, is when there are like......3 hordes on top of me and that only happened once? XD), the graphics are passable for my standards and I only had a connection problem twice. LOL

AND I CAN PLAY FULL SCREEN!!! XD!

But this won't stop me from getting a new video card, I have been planning that for a while.

Steam me or Xfire me so we can kill hordes of zombies together. ;]

Thanks to all who helped. :D
