Sailor's commandments for eGO admins

Most of our admins do an awesome job?..MOST of them. So this is only aimed at the one?s who DO NOT do a good job. Yeah if you just want to ?play the game? and not pay attention to whats going on, turn your tags in please! eGO?s need to provide the leadership in a server and eG?s look to you so they can learn how to be an effective, proffesional admin. I?m sick and tired of eGO?s that dont think, but then want to order around an eG who could do a good job if just left alone. I loath eGO?s who think they are at the ?top of the ladder?, I got news for you guys who think that?.your wrong.

How do you think we pick advisors and DL?s? You think we like admins who are lazy and powerhungry? Who jump down an eG's throat for making a simple mistake? Who threaten pubs with a kick/ban if they dont follow the ?melee only? rules? You people need to get a grip and use some common sense!

So?..here are some guidelines to measure up to eGO?s read carefully!

1 ) An eGO is always friendly and helpfull.

2 ) An eGO is never rude.

3 ) An eGO would never think of themselves as superior to others

4 ) An eGO is a mentor and teacher, not a pompus jerk

5 ) An eGO never stops learning

6 ) The proper arts of an eGO are judgement and promptness

7 ) An eGO understands everyone was a noob at one time or another

8 ) An eGO would never use his/her power to threaten or intimidate

9 ) An eGO encourages others to have fun

10) An eGO is the owner of the server they are in

11) An eGO earns the respect of others, its not automatic

12) An eGO should treat others with the respect they want for themselves

13) An eGO should always do whats right, regardless of the consequences

14) An eGO should always be recruiting

15) An eGO should praise in public and reprimand in private


I want to thank all of the great admins in eGO from the bottom of my heart. This little rant stems out of a report I got from an eG last night (who will remain unnamed) that experienced some bad treatment from an eGO. That eGO will be dealt with soon enough, but I want to tell everyone that rank in eGO while important is sometimes not the best indicator of an individuals' standing within the larger organization. The leadership of eGO are here to help you, if you have a legitimate complaint of mistreatment by another member especially an eG or eGO, dont sit on your behind and not say anything.

Excellent post Drunken. All our admins should take these to heart, they are amazing guidelines. They are not difficult to follow, and the people who do follow them always turn out to be great admins.

I'm proud of our admins, and happy to be a member of such a fine organization. Keep up the great work everyone.

Good stuff there, Drunken. It really annoys me when people think that just because they reach a certain level in EdgeGamers, that suddenly makes them better than anyone else in the Organization... Or even worse: think they are untouchable because of their rank, or the friends they may have in the community.

People shouldn't be scared of reporting any legitimate complaints - if you don't talk, the issue will never be dealt with. So I give a big thanks to the eG who had the courage to report his "superior" on what seems to be a serious issue. It is only by keeping leadership accountable for their actions that we continue to have some of the best leaders in any clan to date.

I have seen this happen to fellow clanmates from time to time, but I've also seen it happen in admin chat (for reference, I've only been an eG for 6 days... not long). I think it's appalling for certain eGO's to view themselves as "above" other members of the clan. We are a family, and while there is certainly a chain of command, we must treat each other as equals on our servers. That is one of the factors that will draw other people to our community.

To add one more point to what Drunken said, and this one is one of the actual Ten Commandments:



An eGO should do unto others as they would have done to themselves.


I think that about sums it up.

Well said, Drunken. As a 10 day old "O", I continue to read and re-read the Admin forums and am constantly learning and hopefully becoming a better Admin and more productive member. There is a reason this is the best gaming community and reminding ourselves and others of what got us there can only help.

Great post! Having been on the receiving end of insults and admin abuse on some other clan's servers when I first started playing TF2, let me say NOTHING makes you want to NEVER play again more than being insulted and mocked.

And I'm talking about being a pub on a server. I imagine it's much worse when an eG just barely gets his powers, and his excitement and happiness at being promoted is ruined by an eGO telling him how he's screwing up and can't admin worth a damn. I'm glad that Edgegamers is one of the few places where as you level up in the clan, you don't get the power to blackball those you don't like from the clan and freely mess with the lower members. We are all equal here and we all can always learn something new!
