Why Do we skip the E ( Grading System)

i only compared it to two countries Me Usa California + Croatia.
Why is our grade system like this.
America is ABCDF..... why do we skip the E?
Croatia is 12345...1 lowest 5 highest

well, croatia skips the letters. We all are use to letters. I think its only in Cali that uses the F. In Maryland we use the ABCDE grading system. Its all the same really. A is a 4, B is a 3, and so on. That allows educators and job recruiters to see your GPA (Grade Point Average). If you take Advance Placement its a 5 for A and 3 for b and so on.

My guess would be that either since E is used for Excellent in the old ESNU grading scale and maybe the combination that an F might have been too easy to change into an E when grades were all on paper instead of on computers.

Don't forget that the numbers 4-0 are also used to track grade point averages in the United States (and other countries).

You know what you used to bother the poop out of me? I had some teachers over the years that didn't use the standard 10% increments for letter grades (90% was an A, 80% was a B, etc.). None of my college professors did this of course, but teachers in high school were allowed to get away with it when I was still in school. I don't think they can any more.

I think Plork has it nailed on the head.

One thing about the 10 point scale is that it's mostly for college, usually any public schools under college are on a 7 point scale.

And usually, letter grades don't matter unless you're in mid-school or lower, GPA is everything. And now that they do weighting for GPA, where an A in AP courses is 6.0 and A in honors is 5.0, unweighted GPA is most important.

And I think quite a few countries use the US standard of ABCDF, not sure why, but it's pretty common.

I believe it is because citizenship here has E as the highest, maybe they use F to avoid confusion, and also to stand for failure.

F stands for FAILURE!!!!! That's why we use it instead of an E simple as that.

Im in MD, only time i got an 'E' was in elementary school, we get Fs now in highschool

In Florida, it's ABCDF.

In elementary school, they also gave us conduct grades on behavior as well, which was S (Satisfactory), N (Needs Improvement), and U (Unsatisfactory), which is what I think you they may have for your grading, KillZone.

Arizona and Connecticut both use ABCDF.
