Cheap, Looked Rugged. Was Not.
Uncomfortable to wear after only 30 minutes. Very Hot and heavy.

My son's broke in 1st week, No mic, one side not working
Mine broke 2nd week, I lost right speaker.

Sound quality was actually much better than I expected. With decent bass and semi crisp highs at lower to medium levels, but cranking the volume up will make the highs sound harsh and the bass mushy. Sounds like a $10 headset which is about what it cost.
But definitely durability and comfort issues.

My Headset: Turtle Beach HPA2
Length of Ownership: About 3 months

My last headset broke (earpiece assembly detached from the headset) so I wanted something with solid construction. The turtle Beach HPA2 has more than satisfied that need; these things are solid (we're talking metal) sturdy, the cord is both thick and long, and the in-line volume controller is also very well-built.

The 5.1 surround sound is handled by (4) 3.5mm jacks (Center/Sub, Mic, Front, Surround) that plug directly into your soundcard.

The Noise-Canceling Mic is flexible and removable; perfect for when you wanna eat and game at the same time.

Just wanted to give a long(er)-term update on my headest:

Still awesomely comfortable. I can wear these for hours without annoying discomfort around the ears. They stay in place on my head without feeling like an eagle is griping my ears.

The sound is as good as ever. Because these are 5.1's, and have to be plugged into the back of my PC, it does make it difficult when I want to take them with me anywhere (thankfully not that often though). Pull out the PC, unplug my speakers from the pass-through adapter, unplug the (4) headset connectors from the PC, plug my speakers directly into the PC, and do the reverse when I get back. It's a mild annoyance, but worth it to have great sound.

The headset volume controller does have a bright blue LED, which I covered with a piece of Ducttape (I know when it's on thank-you, do not need an LED to tell me that!)

Usually a headset last me maybe a couple of months; a wire breaks, a connector falls off, something causes them to not function properly anymore and I have to shop for a new pair. So far the Turtle Beach HPA2's are holding up remarkably well, and I couldn't be happier with them.

Wow, I forgot how long I've had these. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe these. The construction on the HPA2's is solid. The fit is still comfortable (not tight/no discomfort, but not loose either). Biggest complaint I could levee against them is the mess of cables you have to plug into your soundcard (they are 5.1's, so lots of connections). I split time between these and a pair of Sennheiser hd 280's. Yeah, the sound quality is better on the sennheiser's, but you pay a lot more for them, too.

I have Turtle Beach x41's for xbox. I don't play xbox anymore but it works well on pc too. I can't use the mic for it, due to faulty cables. Pretty comfortable. Good surround sound.

I've been using the razer carcharias lately, I'm not really impressed with the sound quality.

They sound pretty flat, not enough bass and its hard to locate in game, but they are extremely comfortable, and are built strong enough to withstand drops and some abuse.

Most likely I will be getting either the Beyerdynamic DT770's or the Sennheiser PC-360's since I've heard some very good things about them for gaming and music

I had a GAMECOM from Plantronics and I thought it was great until it broke.

pros:
-very comfortable
-decent sound quality

cons:
-the mic broke after using it a few months
-not particularly adjustable

Now I have one of these:

Pros:
-excellent sound quality. I was blown away by everything I could hear with it
-adjustable volume
-retractable mic, adjustable
-comes with a USB sound card
-can use an audio jack or usb with it
-earphones are padded so you really can't hear anything besides what's coming out of them

cons:
-if you wear them too long they tend to trap heat (and get sweaty)
-if you wear glasses, the earphones pinch them against your head and it starts to hurt after a few hours
-they're expensive
-all the reviews from their site boast about how light and comfortable they are, but I find that far from the truth.

All in all, I'm happy with the SteelSeries Siberia, but I still think the GAMECOM is more comfortable. Siberia wins at everything else.

Between the two I recommend the SteelSeries.

I'm going to buy a headset this week and I don't know which one to get. I can't decide between the Steelseries 7h (http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-7h) or the Sennheiser pc360 (http://www.sennheiser.ca/live/senn/produit/en/2813/158). Pros:
Great Sound quality.
7.1 Surround Sound.
On-ear audio controls provide quick access to volume, microphone mute, and surround sound adjustments.
Comfortable, I can wear them for many hours without any problems.(some say it gets warm, not for me)
Cables are long
Microphone quality is excellent
Ear-enclosing design
(It helps shield you from distractions and immerses you in the game)

Cons:
The Price is(or was) high.
The Switch between Surround sound key is not working for me anymore.
Operation Flahpoint Red River Dont support it! (Only game so far that havent fixed it)
The cable tangles easy.
The headset size sometime changes when you're wearing it.(It gets smaller)

Its a great headset and I do recommend it.

I have the Turtle Beach x11's. I use them for my Xbox 360 and PC and I can hear all of the footsteps around me and can hear the comb being defused from a long way away. I am an avid CoD and FPS player do these help me alot! thanks for reading!

Pros:
-Comfortable, I've worn them for 8 hours straight before. (Very light in weight and soft ear cups).
-Big ear cups (I have big ears and my ears fit in like a glove).
-Responsive when paired with a decent sound card (I'm using a Creative X-Fi card) highs, mids, and lows.
-Able to locate enemies on the battlefield.
-Mic is crisp and clear and is noise filtering.
-Long cable.
-In-line volume and mic switch.
-Ear cushions can be changed out if you've worn yours down (Have to purchase new ear cushions off their site 9.99 for cloth, 14.99 for leather).
-Wire is encased in cloth

Cons:
-Open ear design. Meaning you can hear things outside of the headset
-Mic isn't as adjustable as I'd like.
-The ear cups are adjustable but after extended use tend to auto adjust. It's more of an annoyance.
-The wire frame that holds the earcups and allows it to adjust feels flimsy (Though after owning for over a year, they haven't shown any signs of breaking, but that feels like where it would break if it were to break). This isn't really a con for me since I'm gentle with my things, but it's something to think about.

Other thoughts:
-Although I did say it had clean high, mid, and lows and is responsive, I do feel it could use a better frequency response range. Instead of 20 - 20,000 Hz, maybe 15- 15,000 Hz. I do understand what the human ear can pick up, but it having a larger range, allows what we can hear to sound better/chrisper, deeper. But most headsets I believe need this

Overall score: 8/10 mostly because it's an open ear design. If it was closed I'd give it a 9/10. They go for $64.99 USD on Newegg.

$20 will only get you something cheap, that won't sound great, break easy, and will need to be replaced sooner than a higher quality headset.

The cheapest thing I can suggest that isn't THAT bad would be these

I owned a pair of Koss SB45's when I first got into gaming. They worked alright when used with a decent sound card. Don't expect that WOW factor. Anything below 40 probably won't be that great.

If you could do up to $30, these would be much better and more comfortable.

Since you never stated it had to be USB or could be 3.5 I can only assume. USB would be better if you don't have a decent sound card, but still won't sound nearly as good as having a dedicated sound card.
