How would u apply it the right way? i dont want to produce more heat on my cpu becasue i put to much on it or too less

Well, generally you can just put a small (bb sized) bit in the middle and the heatsink will squish it where it needs to be.

To properly apply thermal paste, you need to figure out how flat the base of the heatsink is. But for a first time build, go with the bb in the middle, and maybe spread it around a little bit with a credit card or something.

thermal grease is a compound that goes between your CPU and the heatsink above it. It conducts heat. The top of the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink may look flat, but they have TINY grooves and pits that prevents the CPU and heatsink from making good contact. The grease fills these grooves and pits to help have bettwer contact and thus better heat disapation than metal on metal.

Thank you :D

make sure to clean the original paste off before applying new paste.

clean VERY thoroughly. Also depending on what heatsink you have you should apply it differently. For instance, I have an OCZ Vendetta II, which has exposed heatpipes, so I lined the heatpipes with thermal paste, which works better then using a BB sized clump in the middle

It is crucial as stated above that both surfaces are completely clean of foreign contaminates, i have yet to find a really good residual free cleaner.

Heat originates dead center of the CPU and radiates outwards to the edges so apply a "rice" size bit of thermal paste in the center. I have really liked using the Arctic Silver paste and have had noticeable temp drop differences using that product.

Remember... more is not better!

It is not necessary to spread it as this also can create micro pockets of air and potential hot spots. Ideally when the heatsink/cpu cooler is lowered down it will spread the paste perfectly.

i agree with aarandorf on that, but if it's all you can get a hold of or just don't wanna pay extra alcohol will do in a pinch it's what i usually use.
