IT seems to me that the servers have been dying off earlier lately than they have in the past.

Anyone else notice this as well or am I going crazy?

Lastnight Warpath just drained out ~2315CDT. It was full, then the next moment we had a 3v3 match.

i mostly play warpath so thats where most of my experience lies, but after i leave warpath I check all the other EGO servers, usually after warpath dies only 2fort, valve maps, and dustbowl have a decent amount of players on them.

as for daylight savings i didnt even think of that, i suppose that could be it...

I'd have two theories:

1.) Daylights Savings Time. This only accounts for a very small bit, but people may be getting tired a little earlier for a bit while adjusting.

2.) Much more likely and influential: Midterms! Lots of players are students, as I am. It's midterm season, so people have other commitments that, sadly, are greater than game. :( It's not affecting me too much since 2 of my four midterms came a week or so early, and one is a week later than normal, so it's spread out nicely over a 3-4 week period. But, not all are so lucky.

Edit: Haha DMC, beat you to the "school" explanation. Winnar!

I've, personally, been finding it hard to play TF2... but my usual playtime is 12:AM-2AM Central Standard, which has always been a bit lean.

If I were to come up with an explanation, it's this:

FINALS and STANDARDIZED TESTS and GRADUATION

March, April, May, this is the time of year when students start looking at their GPA and going... whew! Better pass these next two tests! They start planning for their finals, start focusing more on graduation, planning for prom, kissing professorial butts, etc, etc, etc. Check the recent poll about eGO Age Groups:

http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=551

60% of our gamers are in the "OMG SCHOOL" group. The 17-26 group, whom I ususally find during my past-midnight runs, are all busy with school. Younger groups have to go to bed by 10*, and the older groups have 9-5ers and can't wontonly stay up in a Mountain Dew powered rage**.

I've got my degree and my business which is open noon to seven, so I can afford to be up late.

Add me to steam friends... if I'm on and not busy, I'd be more than happy to join a server with you guys and goof off. ...if it's Warpath, you'll need to convince me a bit harder, but other than that I'm gold. And if you invite me to Turbine I'm there in a heartbeat :D

Just give it a few months. In a month or two, finals are done, gpa's have essentially been locked down, professoral butts have been kissed to the requisite amounts, and SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER, and soon nobody will ever be able to get a slot, and we'll have threads saying "I CANT NEVER GET INTO A SERVER ;.;".***

* Blatant stereotype
** Again!
*** This is what turned me into a late night gamer; I joined eGO during the crush months, and this was the only time I could find slots!

Week before spring break.... lots of exams taking place... my wife has had four exams in the last 4days of class... give it a week or so and it will return to normal.

seems to me every time the map re-loads (or whatever the technical term is) and you have to wait, the server tends to clear out a bit for a while. i'm guessing maybe this isn't exactly what you're referring to, but can anyone tell me why exactly the server does this? i guess i'm referring to warpath specifically, as that's where i've noticed it. i'm sure there's a reason for the reset/reload, but it seems like momentum/player numbers get killed by this.

Been having great weather on the Central East Coast - I have seen no reason to stay cooped up in the house playing TF2 lately - thats what Winter is for :p I imagine I'm not the only one.

I usually only play during peak hours anyways, so no real change for me. Hoping we'll have a huge upswing during spring break though. :D

Ive noticed this, and only conclusion i can come to as to why this is happening is that there is always one team that dominates the other, and when vote scramble is initiated it always fails causing people to leave the losing team to spectate or to leave the server completely....The only solution to this that I can think of is instead of initiating vote scramble, why wont some of the eGO members who are ranking at the top of the leader board just switch to the losing side, making the teams a bit more balanced? This may make people stay on longer and not spectate just to join the winning team as often...my other suggestion and ive suggested it to admins on the server is to ask the specs to join up or kindly leave, most times people join up giving us a good game, while other times they just leave. Either way team balance imo is a big reason as to why people leave.

Haven't been playing much due to the scout update so haven't noticed.
