Engie Unlock Idea!

replacing melee weapon would make engie useless as they could not build anything... am i wrong here

When the Engie update does come out... It is guarunteed that the wrench will be replaced by another wrench. It will either be lest damage/more build or less build/ more damage. It may also be a "get metal when you hit people with it" like the medic ubersaw.

You know one thing I miss from TFC was the body armor and engies being being able to fix it. It made them somewhat useful on the front lines. could you imagine a heavy being healed and getting body armor fixes at the same time.

Wrench replacement: the Spanner
This baby makes everything possible. It swings faster than the wrench (a bit slower than the bat, maybe?) but also deals less damage. Faster upgrading!
This is for the supportive engies who want to defend an important point and don't want to whack spies and other pesky enemies with the wrench.

Pistol replacement: the Railgun
Pew pew laser gun. You can charge it up by holding down the fire button. If you charge it up long enough, you'll get 40 metal. But be careful if you charge it for too long, it'll damage you! If you really want to, you can use a charged up blast to jump higher. Just point down, then fire and jump at the same time.

Shotgun replacement: the Super Shotgun (I've got no better name yet...)
If you feel the need to go Rambo into the enemy's base, this is the weapon for you! It's a double-barreled shotgun that sacrifices speed for power and range. It takes longer to reload and has a slower rate of fire but it packs quite a punch! Its range is better than the shotty's since it's got a narrowed spread. Don't miss any shot, you'll get punished otherwise!

If your level 1 sentry kills an enemy while you wear this manly looking device, ding! 25 metal!
Level 2? 50!
Level 3? 75 metal!

I like it but it should be reversed...75 for a kill with lvl1, ect.

And Calle, I love the Spanner idea. Maybe 15 % less damage and no crits?

The demo drinks his scrumpy, can't imagine there'd be a problem with the beer. And the Spy smokes; his disguise kit is a cigarette case!

Drinking beer shouldn't be a problem; like I said, it's in Meet teh Engie :D

Pistol replacement; point the laser and it aims at it, pull the trigger and it shoots things. AWESOMEZOR.

IN OTHER NEWS: Beverage concessions seems to be exactly what the Engineer is for; now he's a mobile dispenser! Maybe when he gives you a bottle, you have a choice: drink it for health, or drop it for ammo :P Why not? Bats give you bullets.

Overpowered? He loses his pistol and only gets six brewskies. Sounds like a fair trade, for an Engie to run some health forward to people who are out of range of his dispenser.

For these ideas, I think we'll all be willing to make an exception to the "no more consumable" rule. This is awesome!

One idea I liked was an impact wrench:

Impact_wrench_01.jpg

+50% Building speed
+33% Repair speed
-33% Damage

Torque wrench, air gun, rattle wrench, whatever you call it, that bad boy is OBVIOUSLY all about building things and less about hitting things, whereas any kind of spanner, wrench, lever, can obviously be used to whack spahs.

I'm pretty sure if you whacked someone with that thing in the picture it'd do a lot of damage...lol.

I misunderstood this a while back, or I would have posted sooner!

The beer replaces the Engineer's pistol. The question was if the beer should replaces the melee weapon of the PERSON HE GIVES IT TO, or if they have to make an immediate choice to consume the beverage or drop it.

The Engie keeps his melee.

The nl thing I worry about with beer is griefing; handing a beer to a sniper while he's busy, or something of that matter.

I'm pretty sure if you whacked someone with that thing in the picture it'd do a lot of damage...lol.

Yeah, but it's the difference of punching somebody and hitting them with a bat.

A wrench or spanner gets a leverage bonus to damage, you swing it. The impact wrench, on the other hand, is basically just a really hard punching glove. You can't swing it for extra power, so it getsa -33% discount to damage when using it as a weapon.

All I am asking for is being able to manually control my sentries. I hate it when I know I can nail a guy but the bloody sentry doesn't want to fire!

That is pure genius. We need another class that can put out fires anyway.

This thread has many great ideas and maybe someday could be very well included with an Engineer update. Many creative minds here.

I only have one this to point out, this impact wrench would be completely useless without an aircompressor. I know it's still a video game, but maybe we can make it a little more realistic? ;P For that +50% faster building and +33% faster repair, a dispenser has to be built first? Otherwise you'll only get your -33%.

These impact wrench bad boys are pretty heavy compared to an actual wrench, the swing when trying to attack someone should be much slower, but when building it needs not to swing since it's pretty much like a drill, hold down the trigger.

Very true. Technically a rattle wrench needs an air compressor... but technically a teleporter needs massive amounts of energy :D And how the heck does a Medigun work?

Also, this only applies to pneumatic rattle wrenches. "Impact Wrench" describes the wrench's internal mechanics, not the drive that makes the impacts. There are battery powered impact wrenches :D

I do like your idea, but here's a few problems:

1) Only turtles place their dispensers close enough to their sentries to "get the point" of the dispenser being an air compressor.

2) As the dispenser is the slowest buildable (60 seconds), making you build one before you get a speed bonus for anything else destroys the whole point of the speed bonus :D

But here's an idea, building off yours: the rattle wrench has a battery like teh Spah's cloak. You can "run" the rattle wrench for 15 seconds, where you get a 33% bonus to build/repair time. When the battery "runs dry" you get go back to no-bonus (you know, when an electric drill goes dead, and you could turn the screwdriver faster). The battery slowly recharges, or can be topped off at a dispenser/medicine cabinet.

i think the idea of that drill or rattle wrench, whatever, is a really cool idea. I like the fact that it can build faster and the battery idea was really cool. Also having it not have as good of attacks is pretty realistic

what i'm still wondering is if Valve is gonna remake any of the engy's gadgets, or just keep them. In a way, they are weapons, but then having 4/5 unlockables wouldnt be that great. Maybe faster sentries or something idk. I read an article about tf2 citing how sentries can be really useless sometimes, and can be easily destroyed. Maybe up the sentries

O, and the laser gun was really cool to, forgot specifically what it was called. That seems to fit, plus it could make the engy able to defend himself more. Maybe instead of a pistol, though, be a big ol' gun or something, and replace the shotgun? Like maybe a hunter rifle looking thing (not FAN though course)?

And the beers were very approriate to ;) but itd be so annoying if some obnoxious engy kept purposely running up and giving them to people who were doing something, which could result in them dying (i.e. a demo runs into battle and gets handed a beer, not expecting it. Gets killed)

@AutoDMC:

Ah, you have valid points and a great idea with the battery thing. It was just the picture you provide was indeed a pneumatic wrench which mislead me. ;D

Oh and;

The Medigun emits a radioactive heat beam that manifests itself in the light spectrum as crosses when coming into contact with ultraviolent gamma rays from our Sun. The beam encourages rapid cell development to increase oxygen intake, resulting in a temporary boost in muscle tissue and air absorption throughout the body, referred to in the vernacular as "overhealing". If targeting an injured patient, the beam will stimulate the cells' mitochondria, resulting in a rapid repair of damaged tissue.

It is powered by a cold fusion battery using a duranium hydrogen cell with a half-life that can maintain a sustained beam for up to one thousand years. However, in its first model, the Medigun had problems with heat management. The more injury a target has sustained, the faster the gun will heal, and thus the harder it will work. In order to address this problem, the Medic installed a flux capacitor donated to him from a colleague in Hill Valley, California, who had a spare left over from constructing a time machine. The flux capacitor redirects and stores this excess heat into a small generator, which at its maximum heat capacity can be activated to create a matter-reflector around the patient and doctor, which repels any object or force short of gases. This process is called "the Ubercharge".

However, the Medic was rejected from medical school after submitting this to the inquiry of the Munich Medical Journal. The long-term aftereffects of such unnatural cell regeneration was determined to have an extremely close link to the development of very painful and terminal cancers, typically of the stomach and skin.

Despite these shortcomings, the Medigun was considered well within the safety regulations of Builders' League United and Reliable Excavation & Demolition, where the Medic found employment and a very large Russian best friend.

Everyone knows that!

dude, where did u GET that???

It'd look kind of cool if it looked like the engineer cobbled together a pneumatic wrench with an attached air compressor, actually. If the pyro can seemingly make a flamethrower (one of the best weapon designs in a game ever if you ask me), the engi could make a portable compressor ;)
