What made you guys get better?

OK guys this is probly going to come off bad but here it goes

Ive been playing for 54.4 hours...

I suck no thats puting it loosely I am an uber fail at all classes
I practice ..I play but i dont get better not one ounce
i even get pwned on noob servers where score dont go over 20 much
So i implore the egos and skilled eg and e's out there

How do i get better? how do i get over this horribe suck streak i am in

Because practicing how to die in diffrent ways jsut isnt working

and again sorry if this just sounds like a rant but im desperate

I just played and look now I can get about 50-60 points in 15 mins as a pyro.

it just takes time.

time is huge, and reading strat and matchup wikis...

gets you thinking about the things you see around you. otherwise the strats other people are using or attempting to use are "blurry". reading about them helps them stand out and helps you analyze better

If you really want to get better at a specific class, look for guides and vids on the interwebs and youtube. Playing medic around skilled players also helps a lot.

time, and practice all the diff classes and decide which u like most then stick with it, if one class does not suit u and u keep dying over and over, try a diff class and u may have luck...Just dont give up and keep trying over and over.

seeing people play will make you learn everything much faster
maybe you should try it as a medic you can study them much easier.

Great advice, but I'd say... MEDIC EVERYBODY.

If somebody drags you into a fight that kills you, you've learned what not to do.

If somebody drags you into a fight and you win, you now know tactics.

I'd also add... play late at night. There's less people on, and everyone is all woozy and tired. It makes practice a bit more fun, when you bump into somebody, cloaked, right in their face, and they're so tired they don't notice.

Yeah look for vids and tutorials and if you think you going to die and you have no chance of getting someone to heal you get out of the situation your in.
Also several classes have advantages over others, and special abilities.
E.g.: Pyro airblast reflects, enemy: rockets, nades, stickies, and i think baseballs (cant confirm the last one tho).

Keep practicing on servers where everyone's better than you. Warpath and Dustbowl tend to have the highest ranked players (I've seen you on Warpath before).

Another important thing for me was making adjustments to my system setup:

* Do you have multiple processors? Try turning on multicore support to boost your framerate a little.
* Try turning up your gamma so that it's not as dark.
* Use a giant, thick, green crosshair so you don't lose track of where you're aiming
* Increase your field of vision to the maximum so you can see peripherally. If you can't focus, decrease it.
* Try looking up info on keybindings--I find them useful for meleeing, spy, and engy tactics.
* Get comfortable with your physical setup too--a well-positioned mouse, keyboard, and monitor will do wonders for you.

I was in your position once. New to the game, to the non-traditional FPS style the game brings, all of it. I foolishly tried out classes in a sequence as I died, compounding my noobishness.

My advice - pick a favorite class. It may change, and probably will, but pick one and stick with it. Learn the ins and outs, then begin to see your kills rise.

The best thing I found to do is to spec the people who are really good....Make sure you watch them first person. Then just try to imitate what they do. The main thing to watch for is how the play that specific class. Every class has a completely different strategy. The best way to learn these strategies is to watch and learn how the "good" people actually utilize the specific class.

Then after you learn a few things, stick with ONE class, only once you get good at that class should you try a new one. I found when I first started playing that I really liked playing demo, BUT I was only good at soldier. So I kept switching and ended up playing demo like I would a soldier which was not good.....

What helped me the most by far and away (other than lots of practice, obviously) was watching videos and reading guides. Youtube has literally days of video on every class. Once you find one or two you think you really want to work hard on, go to the TF2 wiki and read all you can, then go to youtube and search for videos.

If you have a favorite map or maps, include those in the search terms, i.e. "TF2 Pyro Badwater" on youtube. Just watch and watch, look for those videos labeled "guides," and just try to be very aware of everything that player is doing. Once you watch a certain technique or practice in a video enough, you'll start to notice those situations to use it in game. Once you start doing it in game, it will eventually become habit, and then voila, you are, at least in some small way, a better player. And along the way all the practice will help you get better, no matter what.

Some other helpful hints: Review your control scheme, and settings that may be affecting gameplay. Controls can hinder your performance if they're too clunky or unintuitive. Bad settings that promote lag or bad framerate can make the game, literally, harder to play because it's harder to accurately see and react to what's going on around you. Also, when you're in game and dead, find the highest scoring player of your particular class at that time (or 2nd highest if you're the highest ), and just spec them. See how they respond to the same exact situations you are currently in. Also, just being observant when you're dead will let you know where sentries and enemies are, how objectives are coming along, etc.

Finally: HAVE FUN! I know it can be VERY frustrating at times, and it's always more fun when you have that feeling of pride in a job well done. At first those moments may be few and far between, but work hard knowing that they're coming, and someday you'll be the one handing out protips to all the noobs.

Ask other players for tips and hints, also watch videos of how to play X class. Most of the time it will show you what to do vs other classes, and how well each gun works in a certain situation. Don't get discouraged if you die a lot or are not getting a good score. I find that I personally do better when I having fun and not checking my score constantly.
