I say we have a game theme.
Like Pick a game and make a sig on that.

Few ideas:

8-bit theme (old video game theme)
eGO Sport Theme. Make a sig for the eGO sports team (your choice of sport)
1920's - What would your sig look like if you had a computer and a sig in the 20's?

I almost think doing some more specific ones would be better, just because then we're not coming back 2 months later and saying, alright, we're doing another space theme! So like the video game suggestion, let's do like Metroid sigs or Zelda sigs for a week. Then maybe something that forces a different direction like Elephant sigs. Just my 2 cents.

No, you should use old sigs, it would be too much work to check each and every sig. And you can simply download PSD's and such. Not that I don't trust you, but this must be a fair competition for everybody



And eh, is Tutorial work alowed if you made it yourself, because I've already seen some SOTW entries right of a tutorial in SOTW #2

tutorial work seems fair. not everyone can figure out how to make fancy signatures on their own, gotta learn somehow. you still made the signature so it has your touch of artistry, even if you used someone else's techniques.

well if I wanted to use an old sig, couldn't I just post the sig then post a link to it on my photobucket where you can see a bunch of my other sigs?

I like the idea of having some more specific themes. I love the diversity that everyone has with their sigs and something like nature is so wide open, I'd love to see how many different directions a sig about a banana could go.

Like expanding on Nurse's ideas:

FOOD- Fruit, vegetables, pizza, snacks
MUSIC - Favorite song, Classical, type of dance
TIME - age, timepieces
...stuff like that

It would be super cool to have a "purple" theme. A whole forum filled with purple sigs would be so freaking cool!!!!

Honestly, I like using only new ones because it makes you really get creative and expand yourself, but if someone uses an old one, I don't really care.

As far as tutorials vs 'stealing', this is called a contest but it is not for a prize of any kind. If you are in it just to win, you are probably not in it for the right reasons. If you don't like it, don't vote for it, it's all in good fun.

And honestly, if you look at mine, I never rely on photoshop abilities. All I have is a good layout and some funny, every one of my pictures are 'stolen'. Everyone does creative in a different way and that is what makes this so fun.

I readily admit I used a tutorial for part of this last SOTW (because I had been wanting to try it), but changed plenty of how I did it. If you eliminate the use of any tutorials then we get into picking apart every sig to make sure every method they used was completely unique (which isn't feasible either way).

another idea.. would be post up a picture ... make people design something around that picture.... using it somehow.

even if its only a simple element of that picture.. not exactly the original picture.

Tutorials should be allowed... if for this simple reason..
This contest should help people expand their skills.. and if they need to use tutorials.. then all the better.

Thats a pretty good idea Tom. I like the idea of everyone having the same graphics/pictures to use and then go at it.

Another idea would be to have some sort of fill-in-the-blank type of theme. So you could have say "Huge _____ Monkeys", where you have to use huge and monkeys, but add something to it. Dunno...just an idea.

and phixx I actually know the tutorial you're talking about. I noticed it right away but hey, it was still a creative way to implement nature and I liked the end result.

the only reason I bring up old sigs is because a. I have 16 signatures that I've already made for myself in the past, b. some of them are really good and could fit into one of those themes and c. I know a lot of other people have really good sigs that they've made for themselves in the past.

I dont think using old sigs would work, it gives people a choice of being lazyer than they would. Plus it means I can't argue with Beta over themes and nitpick at them.

I really liked shadohunters entry this time round. My entry wasnt a totally finished end result but I dont think I could've improved on it.

I dont mind tutorials, I mean, we all need to start somewhere. My sig has elements from many signatures I have seen, the 30 odd different tutorials I have watched over my PS life and some of my own techniques. I feel if people follow tutorials it can only help them, and hey as long as it isnt an exact copy of the sig it should be fine.
