last night we encountered a guy using an mg shooting through the cafe wall in donner passing through the brick wall and killing people in the bench alley is this a hack or glich and should this person be warned kicked or what?

I was in the same room and was observing from the other team. He was shooting through the door in the cafe. I think that it is an exploit and constitutes cheating. After you kicked him he came back and was showing some of our members how to do it. I let them know that they should all drop it and move on.... which they did but I didn't think him coming back and teaching others his "glitch" was the right move.

I stand firm to what I said when this occurred, the person doing it knew they were exploiting the map, just because you aren't actively applying a cheat of any kind doesn't make it any less wrong, especially if you know what you were doing, for that matter three more people picked up where he left off doing the exact same thing after being asked not to and after the first person in question was kicked for it. That makes it worse. I believe that an exploit is the same as hacking/cheating. I believe it should be a punishable offense. How on earth are we supposed to defend against someone shooting through a wall, from the tank no less into bench alley. You can't, just like you can't really defend against someone with auto aim or anything else.

Anyhow, in response to this as I've already said, exploiting is cheating. It shouldn't be allowed to happen.

the german mg is actually capable of walling through several walls in the game, most notably pretty much every corner and thin walls in rooms. It is an accepted fact and does not constitute cheating, i believe.

Personally, I don't see this as cheating. In fact, if it is, I'm guilty of it many times. As far as I've ever known, shooting through walls (penetration-wise, not clipping) was never considered cheating.

I'll tell ya, I've gone as far as to go into a local server and test every single wall and window in Donner, Ava, etc. to see which ones bullets penetrate. I see nothing wrong with maximizing success using non-exploitive game mechanics. There has been bullet penetration in dod for a long time. There are a whole bunch of places that the MG42 can shoot through in Donner.

Again, I've never heard of this considered cheating as it's a well known dod game mechanic. Furthermore, how can you reliably enforce it. For example, if someone is in a window and you start spraying the window, there is a strong chance that the bullets that kill the player may have actually gone through the wall, not the window opening. Is that cheating?

It is cheating because Allies can't shot back and hit him! If Allies were able to hit and kill him while he shoots thru cafe door which on other side are only a wall it would be a different story. Its an exploit and a cheat.

yeah, when you are on Flash and the axis have a machine gunner on the sandbags next to the ruble! he can kill you when you are in the blue cafe, on the toilet, the .30 can go through several walls at a time!

FYI -- here is a pretty good chart to give you an idea what the bullet penetration is like in dod: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Bullet_Penetration_in_Day_of_Defeat:_Source

As you can see, the sniper rifles actually have more penetration than the MG42.

As an additional note, even before DoD:S, bullet penetration through walls was an intended feature.

In any case, maybe they need an option to turn it off like in COD if people feel it's cheating.

in that link it tells you how to change that... what needs to be taken into mind here is wether or not this player was doing something that disrupted gameplay that is when you can state he is exploiting.

guys its not cheating all it is is just a GLITCH and the right way to make him stop is stop and if he keeps doing then kick. this isnt a hack so there no big deal and if you see somebody doing it just tell them to stop that all there is to it

it is indeed an exploit...word got out that you can shoot through that wall to kill people I guess....it was discussed on an earlier forum topic i believe....a few months a go i think

perhaps we can put an immovable vending machine there or something...:P....in front of that wall....

My 2 cents. Its worth about as much. I use the M-1 pretty much all the time. It has great penetration and I often use it to shoot through a wall. I find its a great tool to wing a sniper and after he ducks back to his hideahole you pop 2 or 3 more rounds in the wall where you know he is to finish the kill. If youre shooting blindly into a space youre exploiting the mechanic. If you know someone is there and can hit em through a wall then youve simply made a good kill.

So the question becomes how does he know you are there? Listening? if thats the case how is it any different than camping a doorway and firing when you hear footsteps coming closer?

Also the question would be can you shoot back? A sniper popped from behind a wall is welcome to try and hit me through the wall....doubt he could do it but he can try. This doesnt make it impossible it makes it improbable. Does this make me a cheater?

Ah, the age old debate, is it an exploit or just a skillful use of a design feature? I fear this one will never seen an end.

If it's a game breaker, exploit.

It's not like a map exploit where you are using a glitch to gain an advantage, you are just making the most out of the ingame mechanics. I don't see anything wrong with it.

there is nothing wrong with this at all and if you disagree then it is only because you are uneducated to the fact that it is a game mechanic and was intended to be played like this, there is no possible way you can argue this one for being wrong unless you have screwed up opinions

I gotta tell you from being there, there is no way my MP40 is going to penetrate a wall in bench alley, go through the cafe, and make it's way all the way to the tank where that MG was positioned. I don't think anyone's shot would save maybe another mg, who would have to be pointed at the wall, which is unlikely because the mg fire coming through the wall would most likely get him before he could even set up. Just because you CAN do this doesn't mean you should. I view it as dishonest. Which is what cheating is. I don't agree that just because those things are in the game that we should take advantage of them. It's not fair to be cut down like that.

Someone mentioned weather or not it disrupted game play. When people realized where it was coming from it GREATLY disrupted the game. We had like 5 people complaining and upset that it was even occurring, and TWO admins telling him to stop. It shouldn't be allowed and I think that there are probably ways to prevent this, if there are we should do it.

Sounds like that particular spot is more of an exploit. Maybe a thicker wall needs to be recommended to designers? It doesnt sound like a typical "you know where the guy is so you shoot through the wall where you last saw him" situation. That being said maybe it is a bad juju spot. To avoid this i will play avalanche :)

my 2 cents... and ive already discussed this in other threads but what the hell

i honestly believe that this should be allowed because it was built into the game when they designed the map if the developers wanted it differently they would have changed the map already... i know there are a few places where an mg can shoot through the wall but no1 can shoot out but this one causes trouble for the germans and its extremely easy to take out that mg anyways ex) sprint/crawl and toss a nade or shoot... and theres an entirely other way

another big reason is we allow people to jump up on light poles, balance off window seals that are maybe 1/4th an inch thick, arch ways, lay in positions ontop of ruins, and the canvas over some windows/doorways which you cant shoot through but because they are all in easy kill spots we allow them.. well this guy is in an easy kill spot your team just has to work together a bit to get him (sniper doorway, sniper window and balcony, tank alley, and german main street with suzy)

in all honesty the only way this will ever get solved is if an invisible wall is put there like in field or if the console makes an absolute decision... right now all its been is egos arguing and waiting for a response and saying no till we get one

hate me or love me thats what i think
