Some of the posts in Frisky Dingo?s thread (http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76103) inspired me to examine how statistics affect my gameplay, and the gameplay of others in the community.
I sort of think that stats are a double edged sword.
From one angle they are a positive thing: They make the game more competitive, they let you know how or whether you are improving, and they are fun to look at to get a better understanding of your own gaming style (i.e. weapons statistics).
There is also an ugly side. They make people play more conservatively, they hinder people from trying and learning to play classes that they aren?t good at, and they can often promote a play-style that is less team oriented.
I wish I could say that I wasn?t too concerned about my stats, but I know I usually check them daily. That being said, I try not to make that the focus of my game. I?ve found that when I?m too concerned about my stats the game can feel more like work than fun.
I wish that there would be some changes in the statistics to award team play more. For example, I think you should get points for air-blasting and bonking ubers. I?d also like to see stats bonuses when engineers help build another person?s SG etc.
What does everyone else think? Do stats affect the way you play? Do you have more fun playing with stats than without them? Do you wish that they were calculated differently?
