Call of Duty 4 Problem....

Alright, this problem has been aggravating for me for last year. Around 6 mouths ago, i had my computer fix because it was the hard drive had failed. I lost all my programs. I mange to restore every thing but, Call of Duty 4 which i enjoyed a lot. I also found out my input sound driver was also missing but, i still could hear the sounds.

I have installed it at least 7 times but, i still get this problem...

I have installed all the patches and upgraded all my drivers. I just don't get it how to fix this problem. Please any help would be appreciated.

Open the game’s installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare) and open the “miles” folder. Rename mssmp3.asi to something else like mssmp3.bak.

I tried that and i still get the problem. I am currently running XP not, Vista.

i had this after enabling my onboard sound. (the fact that i had two sounds conflicted, although the second one was disabled. maybe it also hates to play with my networking USB card.) went back (disdabled the onboard sound) and it runs.

it dosent have anything to do with a mic....
this is a bug that has been out since the release of game.
it dosent even have to a be a mic plugged in,just something plugged into jack. and if you tried everything,why dont you have a sound driver?
have you reinstalled your sound drivers?

No it's just when my hard drive failed. When i went to fix it, i think they took out the actual sound drive or damaged it. I can hear people and stuff but, my input is gone. I only have an output.
