64X2 VS phenom

I'm currently running an AMD Athlon 64X2 4000+
I was wondering, would my motherboard be able to handle a Phenom?
And if yes, would it be worth the money to upgrade?

you need to post what motherboard your talking about for us to help you. But my guess is as long as its AMD still your good. But agian you need to post your specs,

it really depends on your motherboard and our chip-set i currently have a similar setup with a athlon 64x2 5000+ and i purposely got the chip-set and mobo i have so i can upgrade to a phenom x4 later.

and about you asking if it's worth it that really depends cuase it will give you more than twice your current proc power but most applications cant take advantage of a multiple cores.

No it cannot support them, and YES OF COURSE IT WOULD BE WORTH IT!!
Going from a 4000+ to a Phenom II quad core will feel like a new PC.

If you upgrade make sure you get a mobo that supports DDR2 1066 so you can take advantage of that super fast ram =P with AMD boards you can only take advantage of the full speed of 1066 with a quad core.

At this point you are getting a new mobo, a new proc and new RAM at least. By this point you should just build a new desktop or buy one form somewhere if you can.

64 X2 is a Dual Core. PHII is Tri and Quad.

64 X2 If you most likely to game more. PHII is for those who does Photoshop, video editing etc.

I think that future games are gonna be using Tri and Quad Core soon.

I say save up and get a PHII, so it future proofing your specs.

Wrong, any AM2+ socket CPU's support 1066 MHz RAM.
AM2's support 800 MHz max.
