Is this video card worth getting?

What video card are you currently using? Then we can tell you how much of an upgrade it would be. And yes, that PSU will work with the card, Earthwatts PSU's are my favorite :)

Your sure? Everything will connect the right way?

My current card is an on board 6100 nVidia Geforce. It's a big upgrade.

Looks good, but for the power supply I suggest you make it a 500 because its always good to have a little extra. 430 is okay, but if you can, get atleast a 450. Better safe than sorry if that supply goes Boom!

My friend has that graphics card, plays most of todays games well on high

good point about the PSU, it's nice ot have a little extra "head room" just to make sure you don't have any issues with power. earthwatts is a good brand.

people often overlook the 9600 GSO. from the few reviews I've read of it, apparently it's one of the most underrated cards on the market today, and overall a very good card.

The Antec is a 430W PSU, I think that's enough "head room". Also I believe that the Earthwatts line comes with a 1 year warranty. So, if it was going to die from a power sucking video card, it probably would happen within a year.

Thanks guys. If you can suggest a better PSU, or videocard thats right around the same price, please do.

$110 for a 9600GSO? There are better cards around for a lower price -

Sapphire HD4830: $90 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102822

You could go that route, the problem there is that the newer 4830 guzzles a minimum of 450W. So you'd need a different PSU.

You could go for the 500W Antec for $80: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007

You save $20 on the card and spend an extra $25 for the PSU. For the extra $5 it should be worth it.

Uh...430W is plenty. The 4830 only draws a maximum of 110W. If you're going to give advice, get your facts right.

He doesn't need to spend an extra $25 on a PSU when the EA430 is more than adequate.

The Sapphire has a bigger fan/heatsink combo which I assume needs the extra power.

Thats TOTAL system power requirements. CPU, Motherboard, RAM, HDD, Fans, Optical Drives, GPU. Everything.

By ITSELF, the 4830 only needs a maximum of 110W. Even that figure is a gross over-estimation.

Under full load, I'd wager Anders PC would only draw a maximum of roughly 200W.

Ok, now I'm confused. Why would it say 450W or more if he didn't need at least a 450W PSU for his system?

i didn't read all of it but most people will require say a 450w so it leaves you leeway if you plan on crossfire or sli depending on your graphic card. if i am assuming i understand what your saying.

Lets say your computer overall pulls in 300 watts and you have a 350w power supply. and then you decide you want to run crossfire the new video card will require more watts so you;d have to buy a new power supply also. so if it says it requires a 450w its usually to give you some leeway in case you decide to crossfire later

Because manufacturers always over-estimate the power requirements to compensate for crappy 450W PSUs that in reality only produce 250W.

A GOOD 430W, like the Antec, will be able to handle a single 4830 without a problem.

It gives a larger number (550W) for CrossFire.

I see. You learn something everyday. :)

Well, looks like the card is good, but it's DDR2, if you could find one DDR3 OR DDR4 it would be really better
