Warpathians - Fight or Die

I play on Warpath probably 80% of the time. From about 3pm central to 2am on weekdays, it's always between 85-100% full. The problem is during the off hours - Warpath is a map that isn't really fun to play unless the teams are at least 10 on 10.

Would a possibly solution be, instead of axing it, alternate the map during the AM hours to something that is more friendly to play with smaller players - say Badwater or Goldrush? The PL Rotation server is one of the most loaded at all hours of the day anyway, and is hard to get into.

Perhaps if the server was a Badwater or Goldrush server from 2am-2pm and Warpath from 2pm-2am, it might kill two birds with one stone?

just a thought

I'm going to presume that the traffic problem is more in the mornings. I often play in the mornings for an hour or less before going to class. Often I want to play warpath, but it is either empty, or the two players that are actually playing are just meleeing. I don't really want to spend the only hour I have just playing melee with 2 other people. This in mind, we as a clan really need to focus on getting the servers up and going as early as possible. My morning tf2 is usually just an effort to get a server population up and running. But hey, I like connecting to a server with 8 players and not leaving until it has 32.

SO I BEG OF YOU.

PLAY WARPATH IN THE MORNINGS!

exaclty what me and spooling are trying to get to happen by organizing these types of events. going to try and run them twice during the week for as long as possible. We did one last night that got around 25 people in the server for about an hour from 2-3 am MST. We then got a late crowd of pubs around 3-4 am. the late crowd was only about 16 people but it still wasnt bad.

I would hate to see it go because it really is the only map I play, but it is always dead in the off hours. After 4pm it starts to pick up but after midnight it starts to dwindle. As stated before, it is not a map that most people enjoy with less people because it can lead to certain people dominating people that leave because of it. If I could play in the mornings or afternoons I would absolutely do it.

I think its a little ironic that people say they play there while waiting to get into other maps. I do this while waiting for warpath. Its the only reason I ever play other maps. The problem is that its 100% team based and if your team isn't using a good strategy you end up turtling and that seems to be what people hate. Not really sure what to do to save it however......

I've put many days into warpath over the last year, my main server. Since the beginning I have heard threats that Warpath is on the chopping block. When I was in EGO, this was the server to come to for regulars. It rarely had admin issues and no one got out of line. It had semi-competitive competition, more so than compared to any other pub servers I have played on (I have over 50 some odd days playing on ego servers alone).

Many of the regulars have left ego and Warpath, some for sensitive reasons I won't get into, but mostly lately because of the lag issues. I for one have been finding other servers because of these and it has seemed that the lag continues to go on. What regulars there are left that made up the identity of what is Warpath are playing less and less. Without a solid server and the regulars, there is no Warpath.

This all being said, you can't fix a reputation once it is tarnished and the people that uphold it are gone. Now sudden death is gone and the lag remains, I guess there are other maps and Warpath followings out there to be played by the people that gave it it's following.

Agree if you guys wanted the map gone you didnt have to tarnish to get rid of. just dump and. I dont know who changed the Sudden death part. but that is pretty now getting rid of what regulars we had left. you dont fix that this server doesnt have a chance of making it. Also josey i alredy have a backup server to get filled with warpath if this one goes down. But i enjoy EGO so i will try and keep this one alive for as long as possible.

I like Mars Bar's plan a lot. During the mornings where warpath doesn't gain many clients, we could switch it to a more popular map to get more people in it since that's when it's mostly empty. Most of the regulars only come in after about 1 or 2 from what I've seen so at that time, it should switch back to warpath. Fixing the lag would help attract more people as well.

The pl_rotation server dies right around 2am, which Badwater and Goldrush are mainly the only maps played on it. It also starts picking up right around 2pm with players. What good would switching a server to something else that dies at the times listed? Also that would be changing it into a rotation server, and rotations servers normally share some common point of game play.

Also, many of the players play Warpath because they like Warpath. If a full server switches late at night to a different map, Do you think everyone is going to stay and play a different map other then the one they joined to play?

Don't just seed. Get it full and play.

True this.

Seeding helps to get a server started, but then you gotta play. The server needs to be fun so people will remember and come back and play again; it's a lot of effort to get pubs into the idea of a server being their favorite and not just somewhere to play every once in a while.

It's sad when the natural progression of a map's interest generating ability dwindles. Anything new has a higher probability of garnering gamers' interest; unfortunately, this interest will inevitably decline. It's a testament to the thrill of Warpath that this non-valve map has lasted this long. It's the longest running map that's hosted by eGO other than Blackmesa (I think...)

Is it time to initiate an eGO Map Memorial?

RIP Convoy
RIP Cashworks
RIP Sunsettown
RIP ...Warpath?
RIP Turbine
RIP Aerospace
...and the list grows

I was just going off anecdotal evidence. Dustbowl seems the be the most consistently busy map, along with the Instant Respawn 2Fort map, with the PL Rotation map behind it. The overnight hours are pretty much dead for all the maps, across TF2 no matter who's running the server since the player base is largely North American.

From what I've seen, the PL_Rotation server dies because Cashworks pops up and half the players flee. It's very much a love it or hate it map, seemingly.

Anyway, I was suggesting an alternate map because the Warpath server, other than the weekends, is alarmingly consistent. It's almost entirely made up of regulars with the occasional wander-in, and all the regulars start logging off between 10p and 1a central, so that it dwindles down to about 6 on 6 by the time the first game after 1a finishes. It's a horrid map to play without a medium-to-large team, so ergo, no one bothers playing it during the off hours, since you need the server to go from 0 to 20 players almost instantly.

Badwater/Goldrush might be a bad suggestion for a map to back-to-back with it. What about something from the ValveMaps rotation that works well with low numbers of players? I don't really play on the server enough to know what maps are available, but I'm sure there are a few that are really well liked that might be under represented.

Don't forget Turbine, I loved that map :'(

If warpath is gone my only other option would be to RTV on Valve maps to badlands BWHAHAHAHA
But I think we all are taking this too soon WP is the best map so.

Keep up the work Warpathians; we'll show them all:D

Warpath has such a dedicated following.... log on any time after 6 and you'll most likely be playing with mostly familar faces. Most people that play warpath only seem to play that map, myself included.

Basically my question is what needs to be done to save it. Does it have to pick up players in the afternoon? To me, it seems like warpath, with the exception of dustbowl, is the hardest to actually join after 7pm est.

Okay I think this got deleted from the minor site problem so I'm going to retype.

I think we should re-enable the sudden death in Warpath. Everyone is missing it and the only complaints I've heard are about the stalemates. People like the sudden death because in Warpath it is used as a way to determine the winner. I've noticed less quits with sudden death than with stalemates(rages). I know others have agreed with me and find it enjoyable to play the map that way. Just a suggestion on how we can improve the server.

WARPATHIANS unite!

I have had ALOT of people ask me Thurs and today (Saturday) to re-instate sudden death. Whether it's melee (more fun) or regular, PLEASE bring this feature back, OR lengthen the time of the map. Ack's improvements are awesome, and there is a HUGE gang of us that are pretty strictly WARPATHIANS!

if warpath were to die...i don't know where I would play. I would be a Snakely without a home...a very very sad Snakely....Egypt is OK, but it's no WARPATH!!!!!

PLEASE keep this server up and running! it's a simple-straightforward map that never gets old!

Yes, I do believe that it is in Warpaths best interest to reinstate sudden death. The map time should be extended, sudden death time decreased :30 to 1:00, and made melee only.
