Warpathians - Fight or Die

Ditto here buddy... I'd really hate to see the nightly fun on warpath with all the veteran regulars end, especially with all the new unlocks to play with...

Ugh, I hadn't even considered that. Since I play sniper pretty much exclusively, I won't get the chance to play these different styles/items with the people I like to play with on the map I like to play with. So basically, the update I was most looking forward to has been undercut. Wonderful...

On an ancillary note, though I can't say I'm surprised butthead is now banned, I sort of wish there was more leniency. The guy was a one of our best regulars...just look at him on hlstats. Sigh...bad night for everything.

to add insult to injury....ban one our best regs. Where is our leadership in this fine organization. Oh right, drawing paint pictures of themselves. How about a little representation? No server promos, no personel promotions. Starting to get the feeling we're not wanted. Guess only way I'll know is if they ban me for complaining

Relax, relax. People are just upset over the apparent map server closing. No need to shoot yourself in the foot by making a comment in the heat of the moment. We need to be noticed by professionally airing our grievances, not by inciting ire.

Edit: So I asked about it in the shoutbox, when a few higher-ups were all talking. GardenGrove stated that Warpath is indeed gone, for now. He specifically stated "not forever, just right now". So there's that at least.

In any case, I suppose we can take this time to branch out to other maps...except the spamfests known as 2fort and blackmesa. If any regular Warpathian (you know who you are) needs to get their Warpath fix, message me over Steam to learn of two other places that carry said map.

All in all, I suppose we had a good run. Personally, I'm confident that I left all of you with the knowledge that I am easily the best player on that map, ever...ever.

i was thinking that since one of the most important things about the ego warpath server, for me, was the people who played there. perhaps we should all figure out a new map to frequent, which will improve any other map drastically for me.

People are not banned for complaining. People are banned for, among other things, spamming the website and swearing.

Sad to see it go, but hey, the map was doomed when they took out SD and all the lagg. But we tried and that is all we could have done. R.I.P. Warpath ...... for now :P

This is probably going to really cut down on my TF2 playing.... the update would have really helped too. Just wish it had the chance to go with it

way back when i joined eGO warpath was nearly always full, now i see that its nearly always the last one to fill up and there are always so many complaints when im on in. warpath may go down but that will let us go forth, try out some new maps, in the end we will all gain from it.

Wow, just wow.

All you people complaining that there was no warning Warpath would be gone must not have been reading the leadership posts in this thread. Tiddy made two posts in this thread stating what needed to be done and it wasn't done. So why is there surprise that its gone? It didn't reach the goal that was set ahead so was replaced with the new PL race map that is sure to bump that servers rank.

Division Leaders and Council need to make tough decisions regarding our servers and our members. This is one of them. If Warpath can't increase its rank by May 20th, it will be taken down.

AND

We were looking to see it pass some of our other servers, but as of this morning it is last in the rankings. Since the Blackmesa Final map change, Blackmesa has jumped almost 40 ranks and passed Warpath.

Being last in our TF2 Server rankings, as well as being passed by Blackmesa within a week of BMFinal, does not help.

It was laid out what needed to be done right there and yet WP didn't reach those goals, so it has been cut 'for now' as Garden stated in the shoutbox. I am fairly certain they are trying to figure out a way to bring it back in at least some capacity.

Yes I am a little sad that WP is gone as of now and enjoyed many hours on that map, but will it end my run with eGO...no it wont. I am with eGO not for the maps but for the camaraderie, and that is also why after a 6 month leave I came back to these servers and didn't go elsewhere.

Now for the other side of the coin...

I am upset that WP is gone. To me it seemed doomed from the start of this campaign to save it. Why? Read the first quote. One of our very own DL's posts and states WP needed to increase its rank by May 20th. Well it did increase its rank. At the time of Tiddy's post WP was approx 152 and on the 20th it was 130something. So in essence the goal was met, BUT then upon seeing that the server was doing what was asked of the WP community, and also seeing many posts still asking what needed to be done to save it, the leadership added in a new stipulation on May 13th...to have to be ahead of some of our other servers by the 20th. So we had one week to get WP ranked ahead of some of the other eGO servers, which to me seems a bit unrealistic at that point, and something I wish they would have posted when they originally put WP on the chopping block(it may have stood a chance then). Well that didn't happen so WP was taken done and replaced with the new race PL map, which will bump that servers rank as its a new map lots of people want to try out.

As you can see I am torn by this decision. While I understand why it was done, I don't necessarily agree with that decision or the way it was handled. But such is life and we will get over it and hopefully see WP back here in the not do distant future.

So basically while I am upset WP is gone, I think its more annoying to keep reading from people that this was unexpected. It wasn't unexpected, it was right there in print the whole time. WP has been on the chopping block many times since it first came to eGO servers and finally it succumbed to the axe. WP had an amazingly fun run here and I hope that all of you upset with it being axed, 'for now', think before you up and leave the eGO community over a map that will probably be back in some way eventually.(I would love to see it in some sort of RTV rotation server, then it can be voted to stay up as long as people are wanting to play it)

well said duck. its been know for ages, almost everyone did know, what is done is done. i suspect you will see it again in events and suck but at the moment there just isnt a call for it, and eGO can not waste what money we do have in the current climate on a server that is not in the same league as all the others.

I wasn't suprised, just disappointed. Your right though in that it really felt like it was doomed from the start. However, that doesn't cover up the fact that we have lost a lot of the regulars over the past couple of months which definitely didn't help. Seeing as this is a custom map it I was suprised that we lasted as long as we have, and I think that is due to the regulars. Most people who dedicate more then an hour or two to this map you realize that its not just about spam but that there is truely a lot of strategy going into everything.

Another aspect that I don't think helped was when we were trying to fill it we just couldn't keep pubs in long enough. This was due to when the map isn't full, it is very easy to get rolled. Most don't like getting dominated and beaten for 8 straight matches. Most times I was there early afternoon, we would have people join for a few matches, get about 9v9 with one team doing really well (mostly the one with a medic or two) and people would rage quit. It would then empty back down to 5v5 or less. I take full responsibility for making people rage quit because I was just a little too good. I should have backed off a little and let them feel better about themselves by getting a revenge.

Ronin may claim that he was the "best ever" and I wouldn't argue with him if it was a sniper debate. However, seeing as how best ever implies good at everything I can find faults in logic. I've forced the "best ever" to panic while playing spy. I've dominated the best ever as a demo, destroyed him as a soldier, healed him as a medic, and shot him in the face a few times as a sniper. This, I would believe, would imply that I'm better then he is. And, I was almost always the sole reason my team won. And I'm modest about it also....

I am a VERY sad little snakely this morning. My favorite map, and my favorite players, are now scattered in the wind.

I guess I'll play some egypt in the meantime, although it's not NEARLY as much fun...It is the only other eGO map that I like even a little bit.

Guess it's time to branch out and play on other clan's servers if I want the best maps....

rolls over and cries a snakely tear :(

'tis a sad day, Snakely. I've been hitting up Egypt recently as well -- not a bad server, but not WP. Bet other WP servers will be getting a spike in attendance....

This sucks :(

Duck, so you're saying we had certain goals to meet, like raising the rank, which we did, then suddenly our goal changed to surpass other servers 7 days before the cut date? How in the world could we jump the server 100+ spots in 7 days? Especially after the new blackmesa version was just released a couple weeks before warpath's deadline and jumped that servers spot to 80? Is that a coincidence?

Anyway, I guess if it wasn't getting results, it bottomline wasn't getting results and had to go.. we can all get our warpath play on elsewhere which isn't too much of a problem, it's just there were alot of good regulars that we've lost.

Guys, we know this is sad for all you regular Warpath players. We tried to give it a chance to climb. Honestly, other favorites that had to go like Convoy, Turbine, Gravelpit didn't even get the chance to try to bring it up.

It makes me really sad to see people saying they are finding other servers, other clans, or not donating anymore because I never realized you were only here for one map. Sure, everyone has different reasons for being here, but you need to experience a little more of what eGO has to offer if that's how you feel.

As far as the map itself goes, I have my faves and NONE of them are viable as a 24/7 server. Some of them aren't even in a rotation map and I can only play them in events once in a blue moon. But I play the maps we have and have a great time doing so.

As far as the people go, every map has loyal members and pubs alike. Not saying Warpath peeps aren't special, but give some other maps a chance. I know from experience that BlackMesa has a HUGE member following, Dustbowl has a HUGE pub following, and 2FOrt has a mix of loyal players.

It might be new, but sometimes change can be a good thing. If you are just looking for some camaraderie with other members, hop in vent or IRC, that's how I have gotten to know all my eGO friends and actually, we all prefer different maps.

On the bright side, we are going to try to figure out a way to have it available in some capacity, but it just can't hang any longer as a 24/7 server.

Purple-I've tried playing other maps. Warpath is the ONE map I fully comprehend and don't get lost on-AND have a good time while playing! I've played Egypt now for a few hours, and I still get lost constantly. The big maps just confuse the heck out of me. I need a map of the map!

I don't like capture the intel maps AT ALL, and while dustbowl can be fun with the right people, it's just not warpath. I can't even fully say what it is about warpath really-it's surely the map itself, it's Ack's dedication to making it BETTER through updates and time changes, and it's also the regulars.

Everytime I would connect, I would immediately be greeted by name and have anywhere from 2-15 friends in the server! Those are some good times!

The other maps I really like are Toy Fort and Hydro-neither of which eGO has on their servers (to my knowledge). Lazytown Lazynite is also alot of fun, and is similar to Warpath. What about setting up a rotation server of warpath-like CP maps? We have a dedicated payload server, how about a dedicated CP server???

I'm trying to brainstorm here-come up with ways we can ALL be happy-AND have our favorite map-there is such a huge following for WARPATH...

I play for about 4-6 hours almost every Saturday-and I ALWAYS went to WARPATH. I will miss not being able to go there tomorrow and see my friends-but hopefully we'll all find each other out there in TF2 land.

My post outlines what i saw in the forums, and my feelings on what has happened, I can see this from both sides(leadership and players) and tried to give my view from both sides. As for jumping up in rank it may have been possible seeing as Black Mesa is doing just that.

Another thing to look at, since this keeps getting thrown in there...

Blackmesa had an update that boosted it tremendously. It apparently was an update that has made that map enjoyable for lots of people and its still climbing in rank.

Warpath's last update hurt it. Look at the daily rankings for WP, and you will see that the last update Ack released was on May 8...WP had its highest rank in the past month on May 7/8, then started dropping...coincidence? Dont think so, the update hurt WP and that is when it started dropping again in the rankings.

Yes we dont have Toyfort, but we do have Hydro, its on the Valve maps rotation server. Just have to be around when it gets played or voted in.

As for brainstorming, that is why I threw out the idea of throwing Warpath on a rotation server of some sort with RTV so it could be voted in and kept being played if there were enough WP players on the server. If it were on a rotation server and was the map most played by a large margin, then maybe it would be proven to be popular enough to be given another chance on a 24/7 server. Who knows? /shrug

Surprised no one has talked about the lag on Warpath and the impact this made, especially over the past two months. The server was probably most hurt by that above and beyond any updates.

Sad thing is groups like {InV}, hax and =XA= are now all gone.

Warpath offered honestly the most high quality gaming I'd ever seen with professional level players and amazing teamwork. It was a simple map that allowed players of all levels to have fun and most people were regulars on there.

Upsetting to see it go but that's how it happens.

So long.

As Duck put it, I'm saddened by this, but not surprised. Since I joined the clan last summer, Warpath has frequently been on the chopping block. I remember seeding the server during the nights and logging on during the day when I could to get the server started, because I was afraid of it being cut. It happened a few times after that.

People who have been playing on Warpath for a long time likely recognize my name. When I found eGO, that was the map I played exclusively. It was my introduction to eGO and what inevitably led to me joining. I approach this situation with some sentimentality. If it weren't for Warpath, I wouldn't be here. Simple as that.

Warpath was great because of the people it attracted. It wasn't just a server where people joined and played in an anonymous setting. If you played there often enough, you got to know a fine group of people as there were many, many regulars. This is likely why the Council gave Warpath a lot of leniency when it was on the chopping block. It's not the server, but the community it attracted who made it good.

However, eGO is essentially the same. It's not eGO's many servers that make it good. It is the people in it. Warpath was sort of a microcosm of eGO at large. That is something I eventually learned when I started branching out. I made some fantastic friendships in eGO that I wouldn't have made if I never tried any of our other servers. As a matter of fact, I'm on vacation visiting one of those friends right now. Play enough on our other servers, and you'll start seeing the same faces, and make good friendships and have fun elsewhere.

Like I said, I'm not looking at this with no attachment to Warpath. I loved that server and still enjoyed hopping onto it from time to time. I'll miss having that option. However, to those who will quit eGO over this, I think you're depriving yourself out of a lot that eGO has to offer. eGO isn't just one map. You may not be able to replicate things exactly, but eGO has many other fine servers which can offer a lot of challenge and enjoyment. Once you learn that, it makes losing certain maps (of which I have lost many) a little easier. Enjoy eGO for the same reason you enjoyed Warpath - the people.
