I have been approached about mesa. The current version went down in ratings, the previous hit 50th before i submitted the last chaneg, soo
this week we should see the older version v2t3 with all the bug fixes and it will be submitted as final.

yes, steve will make it into the water

In response to this quote that Dragonhill made in the "Save Warpath" thread I would like to say I'm saddened.

I hate v2t3 now. The only reason I hate it is because of the spawn camping. I know it's a legit tactic and it only takes an uber to get rid of but to be spawn camped over and over and over and over and over gets old real fast. It becomes a chore to get out of spawn. I don't think I'm alone in thinking this. I've heard numerous times from various people how annoying it is.

I love the v2t7 because of the multiple spawn exits. Even if we had a 2nd spawn exit in v2t3 I would be happy. At least I'd have an option of avoiding the spawn campers. Those who like the challenge can still try to take out the heavy + medic. Even if the 2nd exit is far away from the control points I'd still go the long way to avoid the spawn campers.

This isn't to force Dragonhill to do anything to the map he doesn't want to do. This is just a suggestion for him to make a 2nd spawn exit. If he is opposed to this then that is fine.

I hated the vent camping and spawn camping it recieved, but when it comes down to it, I prefer the old Blackmesa.
The multiple exits became disorientating, and it felt like some parts of the map weren't needed. I loved aspects of it such as the fish that killed you, and I've become quite fond of the new acid area, the part I thought I'd hate the most.
In the end the server stats were falling, and I don't want to see a brilliant map like Blackmesa get left behind.

Yeah, I'm in agreement here about the spawn camping on v3. The main battles were usually outside the spawn rooms rather than on the cap points like they are with v7.

Ya know... we could just drop the Dustbowl server and have two Blackmesas instead. Nobody ever plays on Dustbowl anyway, right?

I loved v3, and when v7 came out i was pretty skeptical to it, and it took me a while to orientate around the first couple of times, but when I learned the map i loved it. I agree with ExlamationPoint in that spawn campers in v3 was incredibly annoying, that being said i also agree with BlackCat, there really are some parts of this map that seems kinda...un-needed really. Still i think v7 gives huge opportunities for team strategies that not many other maps do, and i love that.

I can't think of a single spot on the v7 map that I don't use at least once a night.

I take back what i said actually, cause I realize now that you're correct and thats what i love bout v/, that its so big, I can travel trough the vents alone and undisturbed :P

I would be ok with this if Dragon made it so that there was another exit. My idea is the place around the corner when you walk past the current door, maybe make a (*gasp*) vent to A or something.

I love the new v7, don't see how the rankings dropped. Hopefully Dragonhill will find a way to resolve all this.

Loved v3, v7 came out and I don't want to sound mean here, but I totally hated it.

Now I love it. It is much better then v3. If you want to bring v3 back at least add the ability to get into the upper vents when you use them through the A point.

I would really like for v7 to stay but the server dies everyday at about 11pm and does not full until 3 or 4pm

I played blackmesa almost everyday (and still do), and I never go on any other server. When blackmesa went v7 a lot of people left. There are many people who I haven't seen for months since it changed. I think people just don't give the map a chance. They join, see all the vents, get all confused, then get killed repeatedly then disconnect and never come back. I was quick to judge the map, after a week I was thinking "blackmesa_v3? who needs it."

Ffor the people who love the map, they have stayed for months and I see them everyday. I know Deja Vu didn't like that map when it came out and I remember him saying he was not going to play v7. Now I see him playing several times a week.

A lot of people hate me because I would constantly spawn camp on v3 as a heavy, sure mass killing is fun, but I really don't like doing it anymore. The spawn room and the area outside needs to stay. Capping B and K is so much more fun with multiple exits, and it's much more enjoyable for the team trying to defend, because at least they have more then 1 option.

Keep v7 layout, trim the vents up a bit, and i'm sure that will fix the problem of it being less popular.

BTW where is the Save Blackmesa thread?

Most of the people I know said, as soon as they tried it, that they hated it. It made me kind of mad to see people getting in , saying "wow, that's bad!" and leaving, without giving it a chance by getting used to it. I knew that people would start getting used to it and love it, that's why I didn't want to complain like most of the people did. Now the same things happen, but on the other side. Please guys let dragonhill do what he think will be the best for all the players who enjoy his map! I am totally confident that he will do something that most of us will like. * ELEVATORS WOOT! * No need to worry about popularity. There will always be unhappy players. Some people sadly leave, some people join and become regulars, it's the great cycle of life! And why would we need a save blackmesa thread? This server shall stay up until steve decides to fly and eat people in the vents!

Easy fix: That stone gate goes to a dropdown on k or something. Something so that said heavy would have to watch his front and his back and then eventually get sandmaned :D.

Oh and, the vent camping still sucks.

I have to agree with sitting duck on this one. I really feel as though the biggest problem with V7 is the way in which A was changed so fundamentally. I enjoyed the mix between long distance (snipers taking potshots) and close-in fighting (Pyro, Soldiers, Scouts, Medics...just about all classes except Engy Spy and Sniper really). The long drop into the acid gave a nice escape route for the desperate and added some coll routes with which to hunt people down, like those pesky snipers.

Another grievance about A on V7. I really felt like A was a major crux point on V3 due to its openness, as well as how quickly it capped. Sure, it was pretty easy on V3 to watch the action but the fact that the cap happened so quick made sure that a team trying to defend L or C could go around and cap A to take the heat off. I feel like the action is more removed from A on V7 and focus a bit more on the other points.

I'll admit that I am a bit confused about the vents in V7. They seem a bit too interconnected to me and since I haven't played it too much I tend to lose my sense of direction. While having extra space around is nice for sneaking around unnoticed, I feel like it gives too many points which need to be defended. Of course the fact that points cap slower (Do they? I'm not sure but caps seem slower on V7) helps with the problem of having alot to cover on defense.

Amen. The A quick cap made it so much more intense, but so many more stalemates. who cares anymore about stalemates, they always happen on mesa, and taking away the stalemates really seems to be either too hard or taking away the "fun" of the map, i guess. This is coming from a guy who NEVER plays Ctf or any warpath esque map that is just a deathmatch. :P

Hola all,

the issue that was brought up to me was that i changed way too much in v7. these changes may be for the better but in the end made it a different map altogether. what no one has noticed was that all the cap point times were changed along with the map start time. This actually is prob what did it in as the previous times were adjusted to create longer matchs (which keeps players on)

also. a bigger map makes 10 on 10 not as fun. The smaller maps will play into the night better even if a few players drop out. I think this is what happens to warpath also.

i am currently fixing old bugs and doing a final lighting/visual pass on the map as it will be the "final"

i'm still trying to figure out a "side" exit for spawn room...yes, spawn camping can suk
