is this Video card good for gaming?

Get a 4770.

But tell us what motherboard you have, how much space you have in your case, what power supply you have...all this stuff is essential to know when buying a video card.
 
He said low-profile. The 4830 and 4770 will have trouble fitting in with those giant coolers. You'll need a PCI-E slot, 1.1 or 2.0 is of no concern. His PSU will probably only be a generic 350W, if not less. Check the amps on the 12v rails first. It might not even have a 6pin power cable, but that's what adapters are for.

Only problem, it's $45 more than the 9400GT you first linked to, so stretch your budget up a bit.

Buy from NewEgg if you can, much cheaper prices than BB.

also if you're linking an nvidia card...i assume you have an nvidia chipset, in which case its pointless to be telling him to buy ati cards...

Lol...It's pointless to be saying you cant run an ATi card on a nVidia chipset/motherboard...because you can, no problems what-so-ever. The only thing that won't work is you can't use Crossfire on an nvidia chipset. Same works vice versa for nvidia cards on ati motherboards.
 
ugh no. As a general rule of thumb The first number in the name (in this case the 9) is the family, The second number is how good the model is (4 Really isn't that good... plus your paying 90$ for it). Don't buy from best buy, they over-price their stuff so high its not cool.

Idk about the motherboard and stuff but...

I have a AMD Anthlon 3800 64x2 2.0Ghz dual core processor
1.5 Gb RAM
windows vista.
HP slimline PC.

i really want to know if it will be able to play games like BF2, DODs, INS, and L4D, COD4 all at max or close. those are just about the only games i play. what i meant when i said low profile was, did that mean it wouldnt run games as good, would it do a worse job than if i didnt convert it as the box says.

I would bump my budget up and get this card. Its what i have in my comp roughly and it runs all said games and runs them flawlessly. Had mine for about a year and a few months now. So they are good cards and they last for a while.

What this means is, the mounting bracket that goes into the backside of the computer is shorter than the standard bracket. Since it is a slimline PC, they are usually about 1/2 to 2/3 the width of a standard tower. I didn't really take a peek at the card specs as it seems everyone else is straitening that out. But I hope that helps clear up your question.

I put a slim ATI Radeon 4650 in a Phenom based computer one time. It shreds.

On a side note, Your Roxyness has a 3650 and she gets mostly high graphics in TF2. I would only assume the 4650 would top that significantly.
 
^^ if you really want a card that would do perfectly fine, xenophek's suggestion will do that. It should work totally fine, and for $60 basically, its not a bad deal at all
 
yea i agree i wouldnt buy from bestbuy..but the video card is great for games you want to play. But if you want to go to higher quality games that might not be the best.i would personnaly look around at other stores see what deal you can find i picked mine up for around 150$

but i have ddr2 would that work? cause it says Gddr2. and it will fit in a slimline pc right? how smoothly does it play alot of higher end games? anyway i can get my money back incase it doesnt work? soory for all the questions.

I am boycotting bestbuy, seeing as they dont have the real best buy. I went there the other day to get a new graphics card for my comp and so that they can install it for me, (the graphics card I wanted was NVIDIA 7800GTX) they said they had one better (dont remember what it was) so I got that one and took it to the front desk so that they can install it. They then proceeded to tell me that they were also gonna charge me to clean out the inside of the comp as well as that the price on the graphics card was not the one posted on the shelf the actual price was $99 and the total price for everthing was going to be $200...so I picked up my comp and left the so called BestBuy...and went to Comp USA. There I found a better graphics card (eGeForce 8600GTS 256MB DDR3 I can now play UT3 with full graphics on) for $80 and I needed to buy a new power source because the graphics card required 400 wats...so I got one of 600 wats and I bought a can of air to clean my comp out, my total was $160 and they cleaned it out for me for free. I would suggest that you shop around first before buying the first one you see.
 
Watever you do make sure you have enough space in your computer and make sure your power supply gives you enough juice. When i bought my 9800 I had to buy another power supply to run it. The last thing you want to do is take your graphics card home install it turn your computer on and have nothing happen.
