Spy Update

As soon as you see that you didnt get the kill you'll know the spy is still alive lol

You guys are assuming you WON'T see that...it would be very easy to show just the "killing" player the kill credit, though it wouldn't appear for anyone else and it would also not be logged in the server statistics/points. Without that, it would be very very very much less useful, so that leads me to believe Valve will include this feature with the watch.

Remember, just 'cause they gave you a teaser of info doesn't mean every little thing you hear or assumption you make is fact or the only possible way things can be. There's just a lot of if's.

Another thing I read in this thread was that the whole cloak and dagger watch recharges when you're sitting still. People assume you run and run and run while cloaked, stand still for a bit, you're at full, and then run and run and run, never NOT being invisible. For balance reasons, when I read this, I assumed that was one of two possible ways to do it, but I figured that (again, for balance) the way it would actually be implemented would be like this: You run, your cloak drains. You stand while cloaked, your cloak "recharges" at the same rate it's drained, so it stays exactly as full as it was when you stopped moving. When you UNCLOAK and stand still, you actually get positive cloak meter recharging, not just breaking even.

But again, those are just two possible ways. Doesn't mean it's going to be this way. You always have to keep the objectives of the developer and game balance in mind when speculating, otherwise you're just talkin' out your hiney.

Yeah, i'd say this is deffinetly a big update

Guessing the sniper will get his 3rd weapon on monday, then 2 more spy weapons then by then the update will be released.

Not sure how this works though, is this first watch a upgrade to the normal cloak? Is the second one the real achievement im so confoosed.

I always thought valve would make you the it was another class than the spy, and they did, liquid didn't think so. I'm so happy but mad at the same time why didn't I figure it out, when they said the Huntsman. I thought it could be a rogues, but then I thought it could be useful.

They are going to release it on Thursday, Valve's changing the watch that he has to Cloak and Dagger.

I wish that the sniper update continues rather than being substituted by the spy, aether way, both updated will encourage me to play those classes more, since i play mostly soldier, engie and pyro.

Wow, I always thought they were going to do the engie and spy updates at the same time, that would be epic. But I guess not.
OH WAIT! It's actually another class's update! This is all just a hoax!

In TFC the spy had a feign death; this update looks like it is coming back. Even if the kill message doesn't pop up, you still get about 1 sec of a fooled enemy, which in the hands of a good spy is a safe getaway. Plus, if you get caught in a bunch of mayhem, are people actually going to realize that their bullet was the last on on the spy?

I think it will be both spy and sniper. Valve did upload a gameplay shot of the sniper pinned to the wall by an arrow.

Hooray for fun stuff. Too bad I have only a week before I leave for most of the summer. Enjoy the massive update in my stead!

EDIT: batterytime posted this link in another thread, I think it is relevant here showing it is both spy and sniper. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/58658

Well, as a knife alternative, a facestabber? Like ones that get instant kills on front stabs, but not backstabs? LOL (considering facestabs happen quite often now anyways...)

i laughed so hard when i saw this update notice  although i can understand snipers being pissed if the spy update had actually replaced the sniper update entirely (which doesn't appear to be the case), it would have been hilarious, and certainly characteristic of the spy, who never really was on your side ;) i think too many people would have been angry at valve, though, and there would have been a lot of grumpy players.

that said, the new watches look great, and i'm really excited to see the other spy updates :w00t: both could be useful in different maps/situations. since we don't seem to know the specifics, i'm hoping the cloak and dagger charges up to full while standing still (which makes sense to me, otherwise it wouldn't be all that helpful), and the dead wringer notifies at least the player who hit you that he got a (fake) kill. personally, i notice every time i kill someone, and if the notification wasn't there ***highlighted*** on the top right of my screen, it would be obvious. also, it would have to instantly cloak you, because otherwise opposing players would see the fake dead you and the real you cloaking while you run away.

the cloak and dagger may have a lot of things to work out in order to make it useful, though, because if every time someone manages to take 2 hp from you with their shotgun from across the map, a fake you dies, and you cloak and run away, it'll get old fast. i don't want to retreat and hide every time i take minor incidental fire from a player aiming at someone else, or nothing at all. hopefully there will be a minimum amount of hp before activation, although this doesn't appear to currently be the case. hahaha there will be fake dead spies and people filled with arrows everywhere!!! it will be a funny week.

Sounds reasonable, I'd use it and wouldn't feel like a jerk anyway :P

Also, I saw the blog before I came to the forums, I loled then I was like "Oh dang, the eGO forums are gonna be full of spy update discussion now >_>"

I can't wait to take advantage of the silly nub spies. Pyro is gonna be a really hard class to resist even though sniper is my favorite of all time. I'll probably be switching a lot.

I must say that I'm not a fan of the spy.. but that death simulator or what erver it was named is gonna change that. Although I'd imagine it quite useless when you see a heavy spy checking. If I understood it right, one bullet sets your 'hologram' body dropping dead so yeah, that will alert the heavy. The second choise has it's pros and cons. It is the carnation of perfectionsim at sneaking, but in hot situations...oh boy you're pretty much a goner.

I hope that the sniper pack comes at the same time as the spy, but I have my doubts. In my opinnion the stab shield has to be the stupidest alternative for smg(?). I'd see that the sniper comes more offensive with it's was bow and not a battlements camper since I'd think the arrows will drop down thus making aiming extremely difficult on long ranges. So, a scenario where you run down the bridge in 2Fort with you spamming arrows at the enemy at the other side and the shield slowing you down?! It takes out your advantage as a crazed bowman rushing towards you.
Sure it gives you backstab proof, but I'd still go with my trusty smg (seeing that the shield is to replace that).

All in all, great job from Valve. I can't wait for the pack(s) to come out in few days.

Lol the fun thing is that in day 3, he thought the spy was dead.
But it was really the new watch.

Yes, i know im slow.

I really think this is cool.
I don't play spy that much, but I play it enough to realize that once you get the hang of it you'll love it. The feeling of a sneaky backstab is something out of this world, it's awesome. Why? Because it is so much more challenging than - say - a heavy just shooting somewhere and enemies fall at his feet.
This update will surely make me play more spy, because of the more lasting cloak which is fun if you know how to use it anyway and not get burned while standing.

The 'feign death'-watch I really don't understand but we'll see if I use it for anything other than throwing it to the nearest lava pit.

GJ Valve, will surely be playing these two classes much more. ;)

I read all posts on page 1, 2, 3 and 4 and I was wondering. Why should Valve tell us its the spy update (possibly, and probably as well as the sniper) when they couldve just "cloaked" it in with the rest of the pack for people to find out themselves? Already it seems people are thinking about how to counter this new stuff, which, I gotta say for a mediocre spy like myself is gonna be bad :(

I've been gone for like 3 days and look what happened, they announced Sniper and Spy update. :O
