Jarate...What now?

I would imagine that the spy isn't getting replacements for the sapper and knife.... take those away from a spy and he's useless.

Onto the others, I have to agree mainly with Ronin. I understand that most players get frustrated with snipers because they don't have the "chance to kill them." If thats the case, learn to play sniper so you can then shoot him or learn to spy and backstab him. His job is to kill without giving others a chance.

I pretty much see Jarate as useless, but at this point in time its just speculation. I guess we'll have to see what happens. I just hope that people have to earn the weapons though becuase if not its unfair to those pyros, heavies, medics, and scouts that had to at least somewhat earn the weapons. Only time will tell I guess.

Useless? It's everything but that! It's got a 35% extra damage debuff for everyone unlucky to get hit by that! Do you have any idea of how strong that is? ONE rocket is enough to kill any 125 HP class or a medic, two are enough to kill a heavy.
Now tell me, is that useless? Hell, even without teammates it's awesome. Spies hit won't be able to cloak anymore. They'll get annihilated if teammates are close by or eaten by your SMG and/or Huntsman.

With Jarate, the Sniper makes a great supporter. Equip your Huntsman, SMG (or Razorback if you're super paranoid and like to be slower than usual) and your Jarate and help your frontline fighting teammates. You'll get tons of assists and lead your team to victory with nothing but jars of piss.
Useless, huh? ;)

I dont think people grasp valve isnt trying to make this potty humor. What they were going for is humiliation. This is worse than getting knifed. Getting hit by a jar of pee that sniper has laying around then killed and pinned to a wal. I think this is amazing and will disgrace all my enemies.

I just feel that sniper is too vulnerable up close and would die before he got the chance to hit more then one person.... Its really just wait and see how it plays. I'm just going to be anxious to kill all the snipers that decide its a good class to help push with

I think the new changes will be fun and interesting as usual... but... if you're in close with a bow and arrow, and a jar of pee... are you really still a sniper? I guess I have to see it all in action first before I start making judgments on it.

I think the jar of pee's "intent" and gap it's supposed to fill is spy defense. Valve usually does need:fill analysis with it's updates, rather than weapon upgrades

need? spy attacks and gets away ? or sniper is usually the one who sees him right as cloak runs out and he's running by?

REMINDER: Just because an unlock doesn't cater to YOUR playstyle it doesn't make it useless. ;)

What's next, Valve, flaming bag of poop bombs for the demo? When the enemy comes out of their base and tries to step on it to put it out, they realize it's full of poo...but not just any poo, EXPLOSIVE POO! Then it explodes and anyone with any poo on them dies!

See, it's funny to crack the joke, but if it actually were in the game...it'd just really detract from the TF2 universe/atmosphere/mood. Know what I mean? It just doesn't belong.

I'm fine with the effects of Jarate, damage taken increase on someone will get snipers closer to the action, and into the mid to mid-long range, instead of long to super-long range, and that was Valve's goal. And they get added utility with putting out fire and shorting spy's cloaking devices, though both of them are situational, and in my opinion an even balance considering the sniper sacrifices a whole weapon for something that doesn't do any direct damage. Same for the Razorback. A sniper using the anti-spy unlockables will have ONE weapon, the bow or rifle. Once he's geared up with anti-spy stuff, ironically, he lacks appropriate weapons to take the spy down. He counters the spy, but also opens himself up for a more real competition - a close range match with the spy where backstabs and cloaking devices may well be taken out of the picture. In that event, my money is on the spy with his hand-cannon, be it the Ambassador or old Revolver.

Addressing Calle's most recent comment on a midrange sniper loadout: I agree, sniper really can be called a support class now. Now they can interact with other teammates, instead of sit far away and ignore their teammates. After all, it's TEAM fortress, and there's no SNIPER in TEAM. I mean..no I in Team. You get the point.

As for a mid-range sniper loadoat...I'd say Huntsman (lower charge time, you can't be charging for 3 seconds when you're easily within demo-spam range). Second, Jarate. Your Kukri really isn't going to be too useful when you're this close to the action, if you get up close to use it, 10 guys all turn their guns on you and you're toast. And of course, you get that awesome bonus of putting out flaming enemies, and increasing damage on an enemy, or maybe several enemies of the jar can like splash on the ground and hit multiple people. Plus, that damage buff compliments my third choice in case you get into really close quarters action: the SMG. You're close to the action, you need a weapon that can be useful in close quarters, and when you're that close, spy threat is minimal. What spy wants to uncloak and stab in the middle of a big firefight just to take out one sniper? Some do, yes, and some will and get away with it. But it's a much much much larger risk than stabbing that lone sniper 10 miles away from any of his teammates. Snipers are spy bait right now 'cause they're EASY, not because they're especially valuable targets (unless they're a really freaking awesome sniper holding back an entire team).

My only question is: If a sniper Jarate's an enemy, and a friendly then kills them, will the sniper get an assist for the bonus damage he allowed to happen? I really think Valve should code it in so that the bonus damage is credited to the sniper, if not literally, then at least for the purposes of determining an assist. Because if a sniper on my team is ballsy enough to throw pee on a guy in close range, and that enables me to kill that guy, I want to give that sniper the assist. He earned it, way to be a team player. Teamwork is what makes TF2 more than just a normal shooter, but instead an online multiplayer experience to use Valve's and many reviewers' words.

So there you have my opinion on the close(r) range sniper loadout. Long range, I'd say the rifle, razorback, and kukri. Rifle obviously for long range because I'm sure the arrows from the Huntsman will suffer from gravity's amazingly persistent urge to pull them down. Razorback because lone snipers far from their team are, like I said, spy bait. Kukri so you have something to go after that spy with, in the event that close quarters no-scoping isn't your thing, heh. Plus that Kukri crits like 147% of the time on spies, I swear.

s3v0, I understand that jarate will count towards assists. I saw an achievement that indicated that you would need to get several assists from a jar. I really hope it does, otherwise it will be slightly less gratifying to use on large groups when I could just shoot them.

I hope the spy turns and shoots the jar and then the sniper's like wat and he's holding his new melee weapon and then the spy turns into a jet and bombs the russians and crashes into a jet because he's a boss and then the sniper gets his dinosaur mount because dinosaurs are cool and he rides over to the spy and he just eats him and then he's like BE POLITE and then runs off into the distance into a sticky trap and then the demo comes out and he's like CANADA or whatever he says and then it's the demo update but then the engineer wrenches him to death and he's like GET BACK TO DA BASE, PARDNER and builds a sentry and then we get Meet the Sentry and it's the Dispenser update and everyone will be happy. : D

Best post EVER!

Servo, it does fit into tf2. In the meet the sniper video he had them all over because he camps so long. This is just a giant war, and think about it if you had a bunch of jars of it laying around wouldn't you throw them to say your life to.
