The dead ringer spy watch.

The fact that you cant control your cloak with this watch throws me off of it. I have never found the diguises system on this game to ever really be useful. always found the only good way to get kills is to be cloaked until i am right behind the guy then uncloak and kill. Found using digiuses to get that close just ends up getting me killed. So being visiable and no being able to cloak when you want to to is too much a loss to me. Althought i did read that thought about using friendly diguises. That might actually work well with this watch. Will have to give it a try.

Disguises for the spy work much better now, but everyone still spy checks, and in cluttered areas, peeps will bump into you and know you're a spy. It could be useful going down a long passageway, often covered by a sniper, since when he shoots you, you won't die, and give you a few extra seconds of cloak to finding a good place to uncloak. Its uses aren't as universal as the normal cloak tho.

If you got the Cloak and Dagger invisibility thing then please explain what it have of Pros and Cons.
I really wanna ?know :)

I've got the Cloak and Dagger, and I can say it is a very good weapon. Valve was really smart in how they handled these two watches.

The C&D allows you to stay cloaked forever (if you so wish) by staying still, but it depletes noticeably faster than the standard watch when you're moving (for example, you can no longer go from your battlements to across the bridge in 2fort in one uninterrupted run any more). You can still recharge your cloak while moving around if your uncloaked, but you actually recharge it faster when you're cloaked & standing still.

This over all makes the C&D an excellent, excellent choice for infiltrating the enemy base, as it is quite possible to do so without uncloaking at all. However, because it eats up your stealth so fast when you're moving it isn't very good for escaping. If you're found out and being shot at while cloaked you have to run since the enemy's found you, but you can't run far with the C&D without your stealth meter emptying. (BTW, it's possible to remain cloaked while your stealth meter's empty using the C&D, but you become moderately visible when you do so, like when you bump into a cloaked spy normally. )

The Dead Ringer, despite myself never using it, has the appearance of being the opposite to the C&D. You can cloak whenever you like with the C&D, but the DR requires you to be shot first. The C&D lets you stay stealthed forever, but the DR only gives you 8 seconds (I believe the normal watch gives you 10).

Ultimately The C&D is great for infiltrations and sucks for escaping, while it appears the DR is the inverse: it sucks for infiltrations and is great for escaping.

Nether watches allow you to regain any stealth by picking up ammo, which remains the normal watch's advantage over both.

I had a sniper head shot me with the dead ringer out and he got an achievement like he killed me, and proceeded to taunt, so I came up and back stabbed him out of spite.

It even works for achievements?

Epic win, Valve. You just won the internet.

Yup, its very believable now...but the cons are pretty bad, yet I think that the pros out weigh the cons in my opinion. One of the main problems are pyros, and I mean the good pyros that once the watch goes off, they keep flaming to make sure that you are dead.

How is it that you avoid being lit aflame the first time?

And did you ever figure out whether it drops a ragdoll of another class when you're disguised as a teammate?

Read Frisky's first post again, he edits it now and then.
He stated that the feign death extinguished flames. You can be set on fire a second time while being cloaked, though.
He also said that you do actually drop another class' corpse if you wear a friendly disguise.

Thanks calle, yes guys I am going to keep editing this post over and over and over the more I keep messing around with that watch the more I will find out about it. I will keep you guys updated with any new info I get on it. If there are any other questions about it or if there is something you want me to try out with it let me know and I'll work on it and get back to you with the information. Note that all new information will be on my first post so keep checking that out and i will leave a comment on the last page so that the thread doesnt die.

Okay. Another question: How long after using it do you have to wait before you can "die" again and have 8 more seconds of stealth?

you have to wait for the watch to recharge completely, roughly 20 - 30 seconds.

I've noticed one of the bigger challenges of using the watch is that you now need to rely on disguises or both friendlies and enemies in order to get around. At points when you'd just cloak in you now need to truly sneak in like a master spy. The funny part is I actually WANT them to shoot at me when I have it out, because it gives me that 8 second of cloak time. The fact that they improved upon the disguise systems makes it so that to play as a sneaky SOB is less of a challenge because you no longer stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm still waiting on my Dead Ringer. The CnD was a lot more dissapointing than i thought.

First, I did a little testing, and the recharge time on the Dead Ringer is right around 16 seconds. Which is awesome.

Recently got the Dead Ringer on ctf_well. Used it for several rounds and I was generally impressed. However, you do have to know some good ways to infiltrate without using your cloak. Often I would try to goad people into shooting me so I could get cloak and go further into the base. The recharge is very fast, all things considered, but it is important to actually have it fully recharged before committing to an engagement. I found it's wonderful against lone people, especially those who become less cautious when they think they've killed you.

Most importantly, this is an incredibly potent pyro avoidance tool. You want to use it when you're not in the flamethrower range, but taking damage from afterburn. Use the dead ringer, and you're flaming corpse will fall to the ground, while you yourself will be extinguished. It's the rare pyro who will keep hunting for you after that. I've stabbed a bunch of pyros who thought they killed me in my time with this watch.

However, it's not so good defensively. Getting behind an offensive push often means using your Dead Ringer Charge. Then you either wait 16 seconds or try to kill the group without your escape route. With the original watch you can cloak behind an offensive push, kill a few people, then use the cloak from the dropped guns to escape.

The dead ringer far succeeds the CnD for me. Infinite cloak is great yes but I find it drains too fast and requires you to stand still too often to effectively move around. The dead ringer though is virtually undetectable as it leaves a corpse and displays the "blank killed blank" message in the upper right hand corner. The CnD might let you camp an area and wait for an enemy to come by but the Dead ringer basically gives you a reset button.

It is very satisfying to use it and have a sniper "kill" and ends up with you killing him 5 seconds later. In short the dead ringer is perfect for making the enemy think "Spies dead time to push my advantage" and giving you a small window in which they won't be guarding their backs.

Exactly, it changes the way that I play spy and how I react to them as well.

I actually love the Dead Ringer. I find it very useful and its very easy to use. The noise thing doesnt really bother me, i would purposely uncloak infront of the enemy because i love the sound of it. I havent been able to test it on all the maps yet, but the ones i have, its been epic.

I'm enjoying the C&D. You just have to play a bit differently. You're gonna have to wait around cloaked a lot, waiting for the right moment. Just adjust your playstyle and you'll see what I mean. ;)

i just got mine and from what i used it it did'nt really work for me, although. i think that maybe after i practice a bit it might become useful...

the thing i really like about it is that it drops a friendly disguise ragdoll, so to get behind the enemy i can just do that quickly and have a opening, but the problem with that as people have said is: the 8 second cloak and the 16 second recharge time...its funny to use though backstabbing that heavy who just "killed" you, i think of it as revenge for all those times i get random shot, i think i'll be useing this watch quite a bit...but right now...while im getting used to it, its more of a novelty item then it is a cloak watch :/ lets hope i can get good at it (PL_pipeline here i come!)
