Battle Medic Guide
Battle Medic?
It's a known fact that many players think the Medic is a support class only, and can't hold on his own against other classes when he is by himself, but Battle Medics are the proof that this is incorrect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How?
Battle Medics generally have 2 methods of attack
1) Needlegun/ Blutsauger
The primary weapon of the medic is probably the most underestimated weapon next to the revolver of the spy.
Each needle does very little damage, but in exchange a very fast firing speed and a very fast reloading rate
The needle drops due to gravity but if fired properly will still reach it's target.
This is best used in cramped areas where one can aim properly.
Also this is used when retreating (especially the Blutsauger which adds 3 HP per hit on target)
2) Bonesaw/Ubersaw
The melee weapon of the medic is also the melee weapon with the highest crit rate.
The Medic's fast speed allows the the "Hit and Run" tactic. Hit someone then run, then hit again. Also if the target runs away you can chase after him (except for Scout)
The Ubersaw is primarily used when building up ubers since each hit brings up 25% of your ubercharge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tactics
1) Medic vs Scout
Generally, scouts are targets. Their low health makes using the needlegun easy. Plus their general reaction upon seeing you is to rush towards you- BIG MISTAKE. You can either melee them that way or needlegun them close range.
However mind that their primary weapon is deadly in close range, so it's better if you move around so they can't hit you properly.
2)Medic vs Soldier
Generally, this class should be avoided because of their high health and deadly close range weapon.
Your best bet is to stay at medium to long range, but aim your needlegun higher.
Also note that during the time the Soldier reloads is a perfect opportunity for attacking.
3) Medic vs Pyro
Where the Blutsauger comes in handy, pyros again rush towards you, so use the same tactic as for the scout only you retreat backwards. The pyro's flame will not reach you even if you run backwards, as long as you retreat in time.
Many pyros attacking in a straight line, perfect for the needlegun.
Never melee a pyro!!!! (unless he's in melee too, but remember he MAY change weapons)
4) Medic vs Demoman
Avoid combat with the demoman from medium range, his stickies and pipe bombs will kill you.
Going near him while moving in a unpredictable manner (melee or primary) should kill him. (or you will get hit by a stray pipe bomb)
Note: Medics needlegun can be used to remove stickies.
5) Medic vs Heavy
Same with Soldier only Medium Range is also dangerous. The best way to fight heavies is to use your melee or primary weapon to hit him while flanking him. (similar to scout's technique). But best bet yet is to run away altogether.
Note: if he has Natascha one should run since your movement is slowed.
6) Medic vs Engineer
Their Sentry Guns are what you should be worried about.
Lone Engineers are easy to take on. Many go close with the shotgun just needlegun them, or melee them.
Also destroying buildings that are still not yet finished is important, a few shots from your needlegun can kill a constructing building.
If the engineer is whacking the building for it to be constructed faster, then take out the engineer first.
(Ignore the above if the building is a sentry or if a sentry gun is in range)
Medic vs Sentry Guns
Stay far away from the Sentries' range as possible. In some cases your needlegun's characteristic, can help you in demolishing sentries. You can arc your shot such that it takes damage, but you don't. (e.g. in 2fort the Sentries found in courtyard can be easily destroyed with this technique)
Also note that if possible do this when the engineer is away from his sentry, or dead.
7) Medic vs Medic
If Medic with Medic buddy, then using primary when far and melee when near is generally ideal (since the Medic is concentrating on healing the Medic buddy), but generally the medic buddy is something you should be more concerned of, but if the Medic
If lone Medic, it comes to best of application of skills. (aiming with needlegun, dodging in melee). Chances are that the one with the Blutsauger will win.
8) Medic vs Sniper
If they are concentrated on other things (scoping) then they are easy targets.
If they have Huntsman (can kill you in one hit) then dodge the arrows while hitting them with your needles.
Note that if you are long range, the sniper has the advantage, so use your speed and dodge his attack.
9) Medic vs Spy
Spies are easy targets but beware of their Backstabs (and more importantly FACESTABS).
Needlegun from afar and melee when near.
Note : The Blutsauger is perfect for spy checking disguised spies. The needleguns are also good for spy checking cloaked spies since they can "spray" for spies.
If he retreats and uses the revolver/ Ambassador then either run away or chase him in an unpredictable way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Tactics
1) Battle Medics are not effective in servers with too many people
2) Battle Medics are not solely supposed to fight, HEAL your teammates when necessary
3) Never miss an opportunity to contribute an uber to the team
4) Enemies running in straight lines are perfect victims for your needlegun
5) Medic-Medic teams (ubersaw, medigun) are annoying yet effective
6) Ubersaws are use for building ubers for your teammates
7) HAVE FUN, I mean why would you be a battle medic in the first place?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objective Maps
1) Capture Point (CP)
Generally, CP maps are not generally advised to have battle medics. The only practical way of being a battle medic here is when you are retreating. Or if the map is a wide open space(like the middle cp of badlands)
Note : Sentries can hinder battle medics especially if they're in the right places.
2) Capture the Flag (CTF)
CTF maps are basically where battle medics can fight "properly". Many people generally either camp in their base or try to get the intel, so the "middle" of the map is a good place to fight as a medic.
If one is retreating back (after attempt to get the intel and your medic buddy died, then this is where battle medic can be applied)
3) Payload (PL) and 4) Payload Race (PLR)
Payload maps are one of the worst places to be a battle medic. The objective is along a set path thus making it harder to fight in.
(Unpredictability is a Battle Medic's ally)
5) Arena
Arena Maps are where the Battle Medic can really shine. After your other teammates are dead, then you can apply your skills to kill your opponents

More coming soon. . .
PLEASE DON'T LEAVE COMMENTS ABOUT HOW MEDICS ARE SOLELY SUPPORT CLASS AND THEY SHOULD HEAL TEAMMATES MORE THAN FIGHTING OTHERS, BUT THIS IS JUST AN ALTERNATIVE WAY OF PLAYING, YOU CAN STILL BE A REGULAR MEDIC FOR ALL I CARE.
