Actually, I sued to top out servers doing lone battle medic before they went and ruined them. It's not possible to run a good battle medic anymore, cause the blut just doesn't kill fast enough, whereas the needlegun would hit a crit string and drop almost anything.

And Cic, I will own you however I please. I will continue to roll boxing heavy and melee sniper because they are awesome. And there's nothin you can do about it.
 
Oh yeah the battle medic, I just love those guys.

You know the ones that have the needle gun ready as half the team burns to death around them. :)
 
I've not really played the medic, but the medic is a "support" class. In maps like Egypt, I go on medic and heal people by staying in corners or near spawn.
 
These tips are VERY general. I understand where you are coming from, but why in the world would you want to be a medic when you could pick another class to do damage.

As a medic, it is very important that you heal and avoid using your weapons as much as possible, staying alive is the KEY to winning a battle. When the opportunity arises, pull out that ubersaw, but watch out for spies. They get facestabs a lot.

TF2 is about having fun, right?

For me, being a battle medic is fun.

(Killing a heavy with a blutsauger always makes me happy)

If you cant understand why, then medic is not for you :P

For me, its the fact that I can kill people AND still heal and help out the team. What I often do is heal someone and if they are fully overhealed, I will stop healing and charge the enemy sawing. Its fun :)
 
I think the best part of occasionally being a battle medic is the reaction from others. Sometimes they just can't believe that it was a medic that took them out.
 
Medics are not ment to do damage, but as I know and tons of others, sometimes the person you are healing isn't able to defend you, if it is that he is not skilled enough, or there are too many enemies, or it is a spy that he didn't see. I'm not going to stand down and get killed without a fight

If I play medic, I would manage to get a kdr of 3 or something when playing a medic, spies, pyro's (even pyro's) other medics or demoman can be beaten in melee by the medic, if they are starting players or just not playing their best class.

If you can manage to get 1 strike of the ubersaw or even more, it helps the team out, but be sure if you are doing it you are able to do it, I've seen a lot of medics running towards me to kill me, or running against a minigun....they die and are not really helpful for the team...

Don't attack, untill you need to or it is safe enough to do it, else keep healing people to get your uber up

You know what else is fun? Having a medic ignore me as I burn to death while he tries to needle down an over-healed Heavy...:cursing:
 
Curious: How many of you debating the "Combat Medic Is Effective" actually have over 100 hrs as medic?
 
Ok, speaking as someone who DOES have over 100 hours as a medic, let me explain my philosophy.

When I go medic, one of my primary goals is to keep myself alive. Priority number 2 is to keep Everyone Else alive as well, but the Ubercharge is the most important thing a medic can do. When mammaries inevitably go skywards, my priority is getting my labcoated keyster the heck out of dodge. Occasionally, I have to go through other people to do it.

As a career medic, I have perfected the art of running away. Brave Sir Robin would be left choking on dust. Rincewind could take notes. And, like Rincewind, sometimes you have to fight to get out alive. The question is recognizing when you can run, and when you have to fight.

The blutsauger is a survival tool. Use it to get that little bit of health so that you have a better chance of making it back to somewhere safe. It's helpful, but don't forget you move slower while running backwards. Sometimes, its better to just turn tail and run.

The Ubersaw is your weapon of choice when fighting is unavoidable. The regular saw may be more deadly, but the ubersaw will get you closer that much closer to uber while you're fighting to survive. Hope for a crit and lay into whoever is trying to kill you, and maybe you'll come out of it ready for another ubercharge.

But seriously folks. Put away those needleguns. Quit charging into enemy lines. The medic is a powerful force multiplier that turns a good team into an unstoppable force of nature (lolpun), but only when he's actually healing people.

but once you are starting to melee people, you learned it somewhere between the 370 hours as a demoman, it is still the last self defense, since a lot of people can't defend you, as you think of some of the top 10 players can
 
Bottom Line of being a Battle Medic:

HAVE FUN

I go as Battle Medic because I'm tired of using the other classes, and because I find it fun when a single Medic can grab the intel from a fortified base (with at least 2 sentries) while acting alone (but this doesn't mean I don't heal people along the way), and killing scouts, pyros, soldiers, and snipers trying to stop you.

So please don't go saying that being a Battle Medic is a waste of time, and that you can contribute to your team better if you build ubers and deploy them properly.

I agree that you SHOULD heal people low on health or on fire and USE ubers on the right people at times.

I also agree that retreating and fighting when your medic buddy is down and you're behind enemy lines when you heal them or when you uber them.

But until those times come then I prefer to use press 1 and equip my Blutsauger to either fight or attract opponents to friendly heavies, or melee them with the Ubersaw.

The problem is that many people think that being a Batlle Medic means that you won't contribute to your team as a healer anymore. :(
 
i only go battle medic when i have no teammates around me and i can...

a) Take out any threats near me

b) Have a chance to complete/help an objective

other then that, fantastic guide! :D
