Bioshock is very good. Though I got stuck and haven't played it for a while, but I should load it up and play it again.

Fallout 3 is a great FPS and RPG in one, and I would thoroughly recommend it too.

Oohh yeah, defiantly try fallout 3.

Tunnle Rat (WWII SP FPS) and Wheelman (Modern Day Car Shooter (SP)) might be good...

again, all can be purchased on steam.

hl is a really bad game in my opinion...
hl2ep1 is also rubbish in the HL series
HL2+HLEP2 are brilliant

Stevontoast - I don't care that you don't like HL1 (which is an amazing game) but HL2 Episode 1 and HL2 Episode 2 are the EXACT same game...

Sid Mieier's Civilization 4 and all its expansions (plus Colonization) are on steam for $25, its a great RTS.

(I know, Total War is good too, but Civ 4 offers more ways to win than "conquer the world with mah' weepowns")
