Raptor Drive or not?

Any differences in general ?
Any faster game-start-up time?

It takes ages for TF2 to start normally.

Any recommendations on drives ?

My TF2 takes ages to start up to. I don't personally own a Raptor drive, but I've messed with one before. They're faster, but I suspect your TF2 will still take ages to start up, just not quite as long as usual.

Raptors, RAID 0, SSD... it still takes forever. Unless it's really burning you, my advice is to not worry about it.

It's not just your HD man. TF2 took quite a while in XP. I added 4GB RAM and installed 7x64. It's pretty zippy now.

Yes raptors, velociraptors are totally worth it. The 10,000RPM goes a long way, and being WD drives they are extremely stable. The velociraptors even come with a build in (or rather build around) heatsink.

Compared to a 7200RPM drive my games load maybe twice as fast, and file transfer is faster than 2x, maybe 3x.

I would say definitely get one, or two. They are great, however, you might want to wait for the WD line of SSD's to roll out if you have the money for those.

No. By the end of the year SSD prices could get slashed in half because of a new cheaper controller. And first half of next year we will start seeing SATA III drives which double the bandwidth over SATA II.

My TF2 loads in 15 seconds and I just have it on a 7,200 RPM HDD.

Because the longer I wait the more new stuff comes out and then I can wait even longer as the price will drop again sooner or later, right ? So in the end I wont buy anything and just watch it develop

Well, it's really up to you. It's also rather important to make a separation between raptors and velociraptors, since their performance is rather different. If going for a raptor I would say no unless you get it rather cheap. If you want to pay for the velociraptor, go ahead, but this is one of the few times that I would say there is a huge change coming in the market that may be worth waiting for. Also, a single drive replacement prolly won't do much noticeable change to you system times if you're using a 7200rpm drive now.

If you wait you should have saved enough money by then to buy it at launch, no?

But honestly, a raptor has a terrible price/performance and size ratio. Not to mention I just have a single 7,200 RPM drive and my game loads in 15 seconds. It's probably other hardware that is slowing it down.

I love my raptor, shaves like maybe 1.5 seconds off the load time,

Its a 15,000 rpm single platter 3.5 inch drive, works at sata 2.0 and has many different sizes between 30 and 300 gb.
